poor dan has now got thrush!! he is prone to it anyway just caus ehe has such deep clefts. tonihgt i was picking his feet out and applying more purple spray. i managed to have a good look at all 4 feet tonight for the first time since he got his lami, he wouldnt hold them up for long!! well the middle clrft in each foot is rank and it stinks. so much so my hands stink to and i cant wash the small off!! so should i wash his hooves with salt water?? or i used to use hydrogen peroxide to clean hooves out. or just keep on with the purple spray?? ohh horses!!! whod have em!! lol.

I would use hydrogen peroxide. D suffered terribly with thrush the 1st year I had him and nothing else shifted it. My OH's sister works in an opticians and they use it - for what reason I dont know - so I could acquire it easily!I used tp mix up a solution into a spray bottle and spray it straight on. If it is bad, I wouldnt dilute down too much for the 1st application.
Poor you and Dan - you are in the firing line at the moment arnt you!!!!

Please don't use Hydrogen Peroxide. Though it will kill the thrush it will also kill live tissue so you will end up losing alot of structure from the frog. There will also be a bed of dead tissue left over which is the perfect food for the fugus to live on and re-attack. I find that simple sudocream works well. Sounds crazy, but it really works. If you can clean the foot first and then use a bit of kitchen roll to make sure it's dry before you apply the sudocream, then you will get the best results. If you have a deep central sulcus the you can often get the sudocream in there with the hoof pick. Apply daily untill the infection has gone and then carryon for a few more days to be sure. If you find you are prone to thrush then applying twice a week as a preventative measure will help keep it at bay.
My horse is out 24/7 and I find it works for her even in winter.

My vet gave me a mixture of iodine and formeldahyde for Spiders thrush. It cleared it up really quickly and is a very good hoof hardener. Of course if the thrush is in the frog you don't want to harden that so in that case I would use cut heals Hoof Heal. I,ve never had a real problem with thrush with mine just a bit smelly when the ground is wet but I have found thatscrubbing the foot out (saltwater is a good option) letting it dry thoroughly than whacking on some hoof heal works over night. I do think it's a bit easier for them to get thrush on straw though as they get slippers overnight. Jo x

I dont understand ..... I must be less worldly than I thought. I would use Iodine for thrush - cheap from your chemist - and instant tan for free.

My farrier recommended diluted hibiscrub and purple spray. Got Mickey to stand in a bucket of diluted hibiscrub then scrubbed his feet. Dry and spray on lots of purple spray. Seemed to work!

I use hibiscrub too. I use a small face brush that is in my grooming kit to get in the nooks and crannies (an old toothbrush would work too). It usually clears it up within a day or two.
