If anyone has had experience of their pony being off colour for a few days after a yearly flu booster? Connie seemed really off it on Saturday and it struck me that she had had her vaccination on Thursday. Would be interested to hear from anyone whoohas noticed this with theirs.

Dancer had his flu/ Tetnus booster on Saturday, and he was very off on Sunday at the show. Maybe that was the reason? I had put it down to the heat, but I bet you are on to something there!

apparently some horses have a bit reaction to their vaccinations, to the extent that the owners will not vaccinate for flu in future (though I think most carry on with tet vax?). Can't remember where I've heard this, but definitely from several sources.

Dilly was ill for almost a week after her last flu/tet. I checked which brand the vet had given her and it was different to the previous ones, which she did not have a reaction to. I am going to avoid that brand in future if at all possible. None of my other ponies have ever shown a reaction though.

Doris started her first flu course injections a couple of months ago, she was a bit rough looking for about 36 hours after the first one, but fine after the second - will let you know about the third when it comes round!

In humans any vaccination can cause a reaction that varies from person to person depending on the individuals immune response. I see no reason why the same thing shouldnt apply to horses. In humans it manifests itself as aching joints, headache local pain/swelling and sometimes a temp. I have known one of mine to be a bit flat after flu/tet, but not recently.

Yes, because it is a live vaccine it cna make them off colour for a few days.
Also be awarethat because they are feeling poorly, this could predispose them to lami.

Ummmm.... she always been OK really in the past. It just made me wonder really She seemed OK this morning when I called down and thankfully doesn't seen to have scratched herself to bits anymore! Hopefully she has got over whatever was causing it now. .

its all to do with the immune system so messing about with it can cause an off period but nothing to worry about just the body adjusting
