Ticks!

I removed a tick from just under Pollys tummy last week, all of it came out, so I thought , but just running my hands over her today and found a hard lump, quite large, around the area where the tick was removed from. Now does this mean some part of the tick has stayed in and should I get a vet to give her antibiotics or will it disperse on it's own. It's not painful and you can move it about , if you know what I mean!

Was the tick that came off all fat and full, ie did it let go itself or do you think you broke the head. I know when the dogs have had ticks, if they have been there for a while there ususally is a hard lump that goes away after a while. Best to give the local vet a call, you don't want any Lymes disease, they would be able to tell you what to do.

Probably best Jo to give vet a call. I drugged the tick with some surgical spirit and it just gave up! I checked to see if all the bits of the tick were there, and they were. I know my springer had the same problem with a tick and it left a lump. I took him to the vet and she gave him antibioitcs as a precaution. But with him I didn't get the whole tick out. Still think I'll check with the vet just in case.

They often leave hard lumps. I would have thought if it was anything nasty, there would be a scab and some colour to the lump. If all the tic came out then I can't see there being a problem

I think its just like when we get a mosquito or tick bite, the area surrounding the bite gets all swollen and itchy...even if the offending member has long since left I'm sure it will clear up on its own. I've been using Celebration this year for Blossom and Lady Bear. Its a spot on that lasts two weeks and its been BRILLIANT for fighting the ticks! The only time Blossom got a tick was when I was a day or so late applying the doseage (because it rained).

Just as a precaution (and I've money to burn!Lol!Not) the vet came yesterday and gave me some antibiotics and another shot by injection, which she wasn't too keen on! I did ask the vet what I should do before he came and of course he thought he should come and check (£££££££££'S before his eyes!) When he arrived he said it would have sorted itself out! Why couldn't he have said that when I phoned him! Oh well never mind , at least I know she'll be okay one way or another.
