Im panicking again - Breeze has some sort of growth on his penis, I think it is a sarcoid or similar type of thing. It has been got at by flies and is very sore and bleeding fairly freely. I did notice the other day that he seemed to be 'tucked up tight' as he is like his dad and usually dangling so the flies must be driving him mad. When I went back with cotton wool and water to bathe him I couldnt get him to drop at all so ended up just blathering his sheath in kamillosan to keep the flies away and will try again tomorrow to get to wash it. Has anyone dealt with this before? I will get the vet out on Monday (before if anyone thinks it is urgent) but I was going to bathe it and make sure it is clean before putting some cream on to soothe it and keep flies away. Is cream the right thing to use or should I use wound powder to keep it dry rather than something greasy?

I wouldn't put anything on it until the vet has seen it. I would ring the vet and have a word over the phone today? Typical, things like this always happen on a weekend but I'm sure he won't mind you ringing! Maybe you could put some sort of fly spray around the area but not directly on the sarcoid - speak to the vet first though.
Harvey has/had a sarcoid on his sheath and Quest had one between his back legs but they all seem to be different so you really do need your own vet's advice. Have you had a look at the Liverpool Website - maybe they give some advice too?

The vet came out - Breeze ran as soon as he saw him, trailing his 6 ft lead rope behind him. Eventually got him calm enough for Mark to look but could he get him to dangle......NO. He thinks it is more likely to be a cut that has been bothered by the flies and really didnt want to sedate him so we are going to keep the flies off it and see if it settles down, if not then it'l be sleepy Breeze to have a close look. He recommended just using something like vaseline to stop the flies landing and said the kamillosan is ok but I think I will avoid using anything on the actual sore bit if possible.

Buzz used to suffer terribly with flies on his sheath, bleeding the lot once they had fed on him. As soon as flies start lurking we now apply sudocream on sheath and then on tip of his penis if it's showing every day. We have had the best 2 years since doing this.

LOL the censor got you too! I had thought about sudocreme (same as the kamillosan - if you can use it on babies bums then it must be ok for the ponies!!) I will give that a go. He is letting me get fly repellent on to the sheath area but is still keeping the rest firmly tucked away so I cant even get another look at how it is doing. Thanks for that.

I use sudocreme on Bobs sheath, he looks funny with it being white. What I have noticed is little hard lumps on his chest which have been caused by flies, I hope they arent sarcoids. I have run out of sudocreme so will do as your vet sugested and use vaseline.

Managed to have a really good look over the weekend, it has healed over completely with just a lump underneath it. Im not sure whether it is swollen /scar tissue or something nastier but I will do as vet said and if it hasnt settled completely in a few more weeks I will get him back out. Im determined to clicker train him to 'drop' on command so I won't have this problem again, it has been very worrying not being able to check on the condition of it while he has been so 'tucked up'. Im gojng to get hold of some sheath cleaner and clean him up then will treat him regularly to make sure he is kept clean and fly free!
