do any of you use 'alternative' remedies in your first aid kit. what do you use and what for? ie bach flower, aromethaerapy, homeopathy. does anyone use devils claw - waht for and what quantity. any recommendation of a simple basic book that might cover all.

I constantly reach for quite a few homeopathic remedies...arnica montana, and ignatia amara are in all of my first aid kits, along with nux vomica, and for Blossom's latest teething session, teething tablets. I'm also trained for shiatsu for horse and rider, and will often work meridians, or the entire horse/pony if needed. I've never used the Bach remedies, although I've heard plenty rave about them...and have used lavendar to great effect. I love aromatherapy, but don't have any training in it...just love all the pretty smells I do have reference books for the alternative modalities, but will not hesitate to phone the vet for a first reference in an emergency.

I use quite a few remedies. It is surprising what grows in hedgerows that can be used. I use 20mls of Devils claw - that will do up to a 14.2hh.

Devils claw, tea tree oil, lavender and several homepathic remedies. Lots of aloe vera. Years ago when I had access to fresh hernbs and leaves, I'd use those also- comfrey etc. They were good for a poultice etc.

i always look to alternative treatments before I call the vet in. I use many different ones arnica being a favourite but herbal stuff such as global herbs products and homeopathic remedies from the health shop. Have used the flower remedies but didnt find them very helpful to be honest.

Willow - a whole branch for pain (goats & ponies), witch hazel - buy it in litr bottles post bath for sore backs, tea tree for loads of things from spots upwards, I have an excellent book for people by the 'Natures Best' firm, as well as my mothers cllection of books for when Im stuck. Have been known to sit in a hot bath stuffed full of comfrey. I use lost of bits of herbal and aromatherapy. Salt water made up fresh with boiling water cooled to blood temp in an old sqeezy bottle is excellent for cleaning wounds, cheap, effective and easy to aim, very good for unwilling patients.
