Felix came in from field last september with a noticibly unlevel behind.if stood square on a level surface he looked like the right side hip was higher than the left.he also has a large 2'' high swelling about 1 foot square above hip which made it look even more unlevel.
he wasnt lame or in any pain/discomfort even if you prodded the swollen area.
vet came.trotted up perfectly sound.did flexion texts still sound.
couldnt make him uncomfortable by poking etc.....
vet did internal under sedation and said all bony structures inside pelvis etc felt nice and normal....
vets was stumped by what it could be.
said prob a haematoma/seroma across top of hip from a glancing kick.
to rest for a week then bring back into work and see how it looked.
if no improvement then poss scan etc.
(he'd only been backed and lightly worked for a month).
well after a weeks rest the swelling was a tiny bit less, still not lame or painful.
so called vet and said if its soft tissue(which is what she thought it was) can i get a chiro to look.
she agreed.so mc timothy reg practioner came out.
did assessment.she said deffinately felt like right hip higher than left and left further forwards, said has seen it before if they've rolled funny etc.
she did 4 weeks of work on him and he was looking less unlevel from behind.
then said she'd done as much as she could and anything else she did wouldnt make him more level behind so would be a waste of my money.
he then he got turned away for winter as was only 4 and lack of riding facilities.
So i brought him back into work a few weeks ago.
he still looks unlevel when viewed from behind.but again still perfectly sound and not in any pain.
iv been hacking him at weekends for last few weeks all walk with tiny trot and he seems to be fine with it,was attempting to bomb off in canter last weekend when we hit a bit of grass. not lame and bouncing along so i guess it must feel ok to him.
question: should i continue as i am.get chiro for another look or go down route of scans etc at vet hosp to try to see whats actually causing the higher hip on right side.
i dont want to claim on insurance for it as hes only 5 years old and may need that insurance in later life.
a few people said as he's not bothered by it to carry on bringing him back into proper work and ignore it....but i dont want to be making it worse if its something bad...
what would you suggest,
its deff less pronounced than when it happened but not normal still.
feet up to hocks are level then hips look like right one is higher.
Also someone said perhaps if he damaged it during a growth spurt then it may never level up......would you agree with this.
