This problem should sort itself out soon as I have a saddle on order and am waiting for it to come but until then....
I am currently riding Cherry in a saddle that has had the okay from the saddler as one that will not do any harm (so why am I getting another?) and does actually fit better since the saddler has seen it as Cherry has put on weight and got wider.
I originally used Moo's humane girth which is really a bit too long and so dug out a plain old cottage craft one which is a better length. After hacking out on Sunday I thought I noticed the saddle had slid forwards, everything I have had before has always slipped backwards, and again this morning when I rode (6.00am) I am sure it was forwards again.
Could this be because of the girth not having the slidy D ring thing or because she has a super sonic walk and is still slightly higher behind or could it be my imagination.
I don't want to do anything that would cause discomfort, it's an new concept to me having a saddle that goes forwards!

Jo
I have had some similar problems with Rose, but that seemed to be more the fact that she has a forward girth groove. I have tried a number of girths and now have stuck with the humane one from Aerbourne as it seems to work best. Rose was quite tubby (typical Dales with no wither too) when we started working her, so that amy have been a factor, now she is starting to muscle up a bit and the saddle seems to be more stable and has stopped slipping forward -its a treeless as we couldn't get a treed saddle wide enough LOL!
We did think about using a crupper...but that includes its own problems LOL!
Cpould it just be because Cherry has changed shap a bit? I would probably be tempted to try and get hold of a smaller humane girth and try that. I have a couple, not sure of sizes off top of my head but would be happy to let you have one!

Changed shape so saddle does not fit. Fat behind may mean she has more flesh and that combined with the supersonic walk may push the saddle forward. have you tried removing the numnah to make it a tad wider?

I tried the humane girth again and the saddle stayed put so the D ring thingy really must work. I just have to beg borrow or scrounge one a better length until her proper saddle comes.
I had never really realised that the girth could affect the saddle so much, I had always concentrated on getting the saddle right and the girth was almost a formality.

I used to have this problem and was told it was due to the tree in my saddle not being flat enough (despite saddle fitting really well). Changed to a native pony saddle and no problems now.
