A whole can of worms so what would people suggest as a starting saddle? Initially only for jake to "wear" nothing expensive for a growing chap or would a synthetic do the trick?? or dare I say it a treeless of some sort open to suggestions

id go synthetic! get the wider choice, then make sure u have the fish inserts and fiddle around til lits right! plus can always be adjusted by a saddle fitter! This is what i used on my new forest, i kno dales etc r a lot wider but i wud go synthetic all the way!

If it sjust for jake to 'wear' while being walked out I would go for anything that is free/cheap/secondhand as long as it generally fits, and would get somthing more suitable when he's ready for being backed

we used our hayden saddle - it was light and easy to take on and off. However, before using a saddle we had had a number of items on Jo's back to get her used to having stuff there. Started with a towel, a coat with sleeves dangling, then both, then all manner if things so when she got to the saddle itself we were fairly sure she wouldn't roll in it. We were right, she didn't and she never bothered a jot. It is amazing how time flies as well, Jake already at this stage!

jake already has rugs and rollers which he wears. I don`t believe in waiting until they are big strapping 3yr olds just to try this stuff on. So thats why I am trying to extend his wardrobe to saddle

Did you try the local tackshop maxine? Thats definatly the best place to pick up a cheap saddle, if you lived closer you could borrow ours (the highly cat scrathed, one size fits all dales, ultra-light version ) Im sure we've nothing to back this year for a change!! Are we going to any shows similar to each other soon?

aah thanks for the offer anna I don` think our paths will cross. The one size fits all sounds fab especially the grippy cat scratches saves having a seude seat
