.....Bea went better today in the lesson than he ever has done. He seems to really like the waterford baucher and once he had warmed up and got his motor running he managed to maintain a consistent outline for much of the lesson in walk and trot. He gave me a soft, elastic contact for longer periods than he has before, and didn't lean nearly as much as he was inclined to do with the Dr Bristol.
Towards the end of the one-hour lesson he was tired and got a bit grumpy (tail going like a windmill LOL) and strong - but at that point we let him end on a good move (leg yield 2m and then into canter) and he calmed down immediately.
The bit was moist and frothy when I took it off him. So, a great success I think. The bit looks awful and one can't imagine it being comfortable, but Bea would soon tell me if he wasn't happy . So far all indications are that he's comfortable in it - more so than the Dr Bristol I would say.

THat's great news Sue. A bit is only as kind as the hands on the end of it - I've seen horses in KK Ultra's seriously uncomfortable, and there's Bea in what looks an uncomfortable and obviously really liking it. But you've got really good soft hands. And I still think it's a kinder bit than a Dr Bristol REALLY pleased it seems to be agreeing with you both. Olivia

Sounds great, glad you've found something you and Bea both like! I have a kangaroo one of these for Molly and have to agree with Olivia re hands, it can be as soft as you want but you've got breaks there if you need them (wish i'd had it on today in the wind : nicolax
