For Yeti. I'd like to do a bit of stressage with his lordship but am struggling with what bit to try him in. He's currently in a pelham as he's pretty strong both out hacking and when schooling in the field. When he first arrived he was unfit and underweight and I managed fine with a full cheek snaffle. However as he got more condition and fitness he became spookier and stronger. He can take a good hold with the pelham if he feels that way out.... After the snaffle I went for a dutch gag- firstly on the middle ring then the bottom ring as I still had few brakes. He tends to go with his head up too high as well. I tried a hanging snaffle which wasn't enough brakewise either. Im struggling to school as our school is underwater and the jumping paddock is too slippy (plus I dont want to churn it up). He also gets carried away at shows so the "its indoor brakes dont matter" doesnt apply! Ideas anyone?

Bea is responding very well to the hanging cheek waterford I got for him. There's a thread about it somewhere in the saddlery section so I won't repeat everything I put there - but let me know if you want any other info. It isn't dressage legal though.

try some advice from www.shop4bits.com. My friend has just got the neue schule universal with a waterford mouth piece, shes very impressed as she has no brakes what so ever! Iv got two neue schule pelhams coming one with a waterford and one with another fancy name, obviously not dressage legal but they may have some good suggestions and you can trial them for 30 days before you buy. The reason i rang is because i feel like im having to be too heavy handed with the jointed pelham and i dont like riding like that. Good luck. Jo

I got Bea's waterford from www.shop4bits.com as well - they're very good and excellent service.

don't think a waterford is dressage legal - it didn't used to be.
But then how often do people check bits at local comps???

No, it's not legal Olivia. I am finding though that schooling Bea in the waterford is developing good behaviour and I think I'd be able to swap to a snaffle for a dressage test.

Ill get in touch with them after Christmas. Meanwhile Paddy is schooling Yeti. Coming back down the road Paddy decided to wake up and go into "dressage mode" which gives a pretty good outline on the bit. So Mr Girraffe decided to copy him

Your options are quite slim for dressge legal with brakes I'm afraid!!!! I think the hanging cheek is your best bet!
