Several months ago I bought a Little Joe Bareback pad from someone on here. We used it a bit but then due to problems with backs etc it wasnt used for ages. Then a friend borrowed it to ride a horse coming back to work that needed as little weight as possible, and fell in love with it big time. This prompted my friend to ride Lucy in it,a fairly round withered welshie, and half way through the ride she decided she was terrified of a pony being long reined (we worked out she may have thought it was a pony being driven which for some reason terrifies her). As my friend has a very bad back she decided to jump off to be safe, and her last words were.....I wont be able to get back on now.. How wrong..she mounted from a small verge and the pad didnt slip at all.....We were both so impressed... It seems to be down to the saddle cloth that comes with it,which is almost like fuzzy felt against the horses coat. So,if Spirit is still coming on this site...Thanks ..We love the pad and hope you love yours too!

They're good aren't they? I bought a similar one, not a Little Joe from someone on here too, and it is fab. Not the most comfy on bony Apollo though! But I love it for Harley.
Poor Lucy, has she had a fright with a driven pony or something?

We are lucky as this one is so padded its like a big soft cushion.....Although I do feel like I am doing the splits at first...lol
We dont know re Lucy....We were out one day years ago and someone from aneighbouring yard was out with their trap...She freaked totally, and in fact after that developed a fear of other horses, with or without trap,if she met them on a ride. She has been better since we bought her back into work after 2 years off ,and at first we couldnt work out why she kept staring at the pony, who is a field mate of hers. Then she became really frightened and was getting in a right tiz..... She does have nasty scar on the inside of one hind leg and when I first had her she hated being in a stable, which made us think she may have been subjected to long term box rest, poss through that injury.....We wonder if she may have been driven,or at least an attempt had been nmade, and it had resulted in a nasty accident..... She is a bit of a drama queen, bless her,but she is genuinely frightened as her legs shake when she stands still ....
So next plan is to long rein the pony in the field with her,in the hope she will get used to it slowly.....Oh to be able to ask them what causes these things .lol

Hi Joni, Yes, I'm still here! Delighted to hear you still like your Little Joe. I agree it's amazing how stable they are. I use mine on my very wide icelandic and sometimes with a Skito pad rather than the pad that came with it. Gives a bit more padding for the horse and is also equally slip free! You may be interested to have a look at the following which often has posts re Little Joe and Elizabeth who makes the saddles is a member. Do search for LJ and you'll find a few.- www.bayrab.proboards37.comOne or two owners have modified theirs adding knee rolls/cantle etc. Someone had one made with the stirrup rings mounted further back on the girth webbing I think. Something I might have preferred. Anyway, good to hear from you again! Bye for now
