How many of you use a humane girth?? How many of you really think they are humane?? My saddler hates them, but i was wondering what everyone thinks of them on here???

A lot of saddlers hate these - I can't quite understand why? Perhaps they can be overtightened, I am not sure.
I have two (a GP and a dressage) and never had a problem with them.

I've never tried them but I have heard of a lot of saddlers not liking them. Like Gill, I don't know what they have against them, afterall, any girth cn be overtightened.

I have one but prefer plain ones. also, the ones with the single strap with the two buckles on could be very dangerous. I was tightening one up and it slipped out of my hand, leaving only one buckle on the girth, the other buckle slides through the ring then which lengthens the girth considerably until you get it fastened again, thank goodness I was on sensible Molly who didn't notice

Maybe that's one of the reasons!

My saddle fitter hates them too - partly because they can be over tightened but mainly because as Charliedales says if one buckles slips/gives/breaks the other is so slack as to be pretty useless.

Could someone be kind enough to put a link to a pic of one of these? I'm not sure what one looks like. Oooh, and that's a good head's up over the possible slippage whilst tightening the girth!!

That IS a good point!! I use them on both horses with no ill effects and like them because you have a long 'end' to get you going on a pony who blows out his tum LOL!!

I use a dressage humane girth with my Freeform saddle and I've always been very happy with it. I bought it because it was the one recommended to use with the Freeform.

That's why I like them, Jane.
CharlieDales makes a very good point though.......

Thanks for the link Zelda Hmmmm...that's really interesting! I don't think I've seen one quite like that before. It looks very similar to the girthing systems that will convert a western cinch to an english girth...but not quite. How is it supposed to be 'humane'? Is it because it gives a little bit more length?

that's why I got one Jane, and they are great for that, I do like them in theory but got put off after that!
Not sure Debbie, but they do enable you to do the girth more gradually.

I thought it was because there was a bit more give/flexibility with them, never used one though
