This thread is at Moos request for the different stages of training a pony to harness! We put Flash in the driving pad and walked him out to see the trains! Not sure if he's ever seen one before but was he bovvered? No! ;D Saw loads of cars and nothing fazed (sp!) him at all! Thanks to the Turner school of equitation ;DLol! Flash responds remarkably well to all the voice aids which is paramount to the early stages of breaking a horse to driving! He was a star yet again! Is anybody getting bored with me going on about our adorable pony? ;D ;D ;D ;D He's being longreined this afternoon so there'll be more pics! These are the methods we use but others may have different ideas but this has always worked well for us with no problems.

Lovely to hear about your pony and his training, I think they, Colin and Karen, should advertise their services as the Turner school of equitation

Keep these reports coming. We are starting to train our first pony to drive and I love to hear about other people's experiences and suggestions.

Another little update on Flash! Long reined him again tonight with his harness, traces and Empathy collar which he hadn't had on before. Yet again he was brilliant. We then put a 12x12 foot blue crinkly tarpaulin in the paddock and he walked straight over it as if it wasn't there! At the weekend we'll put the blinkers on and see how he gets on with those. He's doing so well and is not bothered by anything,we keep waiting for something to faze him!

It's great when they take to it so well isn't it? Harley is pretty unfazed by everything so far, our next step is to have bits of wood through the tugs and breeching and onto the floor so he gets used to things bouncing on his sides. Then I'm going to attach noisy things to his wood, then I THINK we'll be ready to go for the shafts in July, when my assistant can help me for the first few times. Can't wait!

Think we could be putting them to together Jane! It is lovely when everything goes right. You keep thinking there must be something that they don't like or they may spook at but our little chap sounds like your boy! Not put a hoof wrong yet!

I just read my post and it changed something to 'disagreeistant' - must be because it had A.S.S in it LOL!!!! Helper would have been better.
I haven't had chance to do much lately with H which is why it's taking me so long. But they reckon the more ground work you can do the better.
It would be funny if they both got put to on the same day wouldn't it??!!

We'll have to do it on the same day Jane. Pick a day in late July! Lol!
Did wonder what had happened to your "assistant" This board is really strange as you can write quite naughty words and it'll let you do it!
