After yet more hay making, decided today to go and watch some driving le trec. One of our driving club ladies was driving her dartmoor and needed a groom. I had never even seen a riding le trec competition, so it was all new to me.
It rained, and was really windy. Being the groom I had to do some activities .....like carry a washing basket of clothes and pegs, and hang 5 items on a washing line, without getting off the cart. Not easy with the wind blowing, but the pony was fantastic - even when the washing line complete with clothes blew over and nearly landed on her. Judge decided that it was too windy and all the other competitors only hung one item LOL!!
We did really well, and also had to do a cone course, which was clear. I thought we were in with a good chance of being placed. Pony is a gem - she is 26, but does not look it, and can trot round like a young one. Really pleased when we got a first, and had 10 for every activity. I had a go myself, and came fifth, which I thought was ok for a first time. My groom let me down kicking the football ......she missed the goal completely, and I came round a corner on the cones a little fast and clipped one. my fault, not the pony.
We all shared the enormous bottle of wine we won - a few giggly carriage drivers were seen loading their ponies! Definitely a fun event.
