I was emailed this article - my parents used to drive with this very experienced driver. Hope she gets better soon. Woman hurt in horse show accident A woman has been airlifted to hospital after a horse-drawn carriage overturned at a country show. Clare Wigmore, from West Grimstead, Wilts, was taking part in an event.
She suffered suspected neck and spinal injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Salisbury District Hospital, a Dorset Police spokesman said.
The accident happened in the main arena at the Shaftesbury and Gillingham Show at the Turnpike Showground in Motcombe, Dorset, on Wednesday morning.
Ms Wigmore, an experienced eventer, was taking part in a driving class event when the incident happened.
Show organiser Sam Braddick said he saw the horse become agitated and took off across the ring.
"One of the shafts of the cart broke and the horse got loose and unfortunately the lady kept hold of the reins and finished up colliding with the rails on the edge of the ring," Mr Braddick said.
"We're not sure what happened, she was in the middle of a line, she wasn't close to the crowd or anything so we're at a bit of a loss to know what spooked the horse."

Blimey, I know Claire, took my BDS exam at her place. Hope she is okay.
Just over a month ago another very experienced driver I know had a nasty accident and broke her hip, was in hospital for weeks and has now been stuck back together with titanium.
All a bit scarey.

I have seen Clare Wigmore at driving shows - and also have some of the books has written. What a nasty thing to happen, I do hope she makes a good recovery.

It just shows how it can happen to anyone. I've read quite a lot about Claire Wigmore, she's so good. Possibly she kept hold of the reins to try and avoid anyone else getting hurt by her horse. I hope she recovers quickly.

Too scary. Your instinct is to keep hold isn't it? But so many drivers have told me in an accident, unless you are totally under control, you should let them go! Not sure I would be able to, I'd be terrified he was going to get seriously hurt.

I can never let go of the reins if I fall off. The instinct is to hold onto the horse - I've been told off for it countless times. This lady is very experienced so she must have had a reason for holding on. I wonder what spooked the horse - a stinging insect maybe.

Have just found out that Clare is back home with no broken bones and is recovering nicely. The horse is also fine with no injuries!

I am pleased to hear that the driver and horse are both ok. Having been on a carriage when a horse bolted, I know how scary that is.

Phew! All's well that ends well Probably never know what scared the horse, but I'm so relieved the horse and driver are going to be okay.
