I must say Lucy and Amy were fantastic, Amy was a total star in the driven class and deserved higher than she got. She did you proud Lucy and you should feel really pleased with yourself at your own achievements!
As for Isaac, well you had your hands full there didn't you! Isaac was doing a fast Dales version of passage - very impressive it was too, although perhaps not quite what the judges were looking for LOL!
Just a shame my stupid camera batteries ran out after the inhand, otherwise I'd have had plenty of pics for you!

Thanks for posting this link Lucy. Amy looks wonderful with the cart - she is obviously very much at home with it and is enjoying every minute. Well done! And well done too with Isaac - not easy when they are playing up like that, I know from personal expeience!
Was there a side saddle class then? I'm interested in that pic of Westwick Laura - I assume that is a side saddle? It looks very compact and most side saddles I've seen are very much longer, so would be no good for short coupled ponies like Harvey. I dreamt last night I was going to try Harvey with a side saddle to see if it was easier on my ankle - how strange to wake up and see these pics. Perhaps I should follow my dream up!

There wasn't a side saddle class, she went in the traditional and won! She did look very impressive and rode beautifully! You should try side saddle! Apparently it's harder to fall off!! LOL! I should get one for Isaac!
Kaz, we'll be looking out for some more driving things to do definately! I need a cart that dismantles to go in one side of a trailer though, do any of them do that??

From the glancing I've done at sidesaddles (at least in the US), many of them seem to be custom made for the pony and the rider, with very, very few 'off the rack'. I'm sure given how you ride sidesaddle, that fit and even saddling up would be critical for safety of both pony and rider. About the only criteria I've heard for the pony, is that they be reasonably well trained ~ and show positively no hint of wanting to rear. I'd say Harvey certainly falls into the qualified category. You should follow your dream. I'm looking forward to hearing about more driving classes for Amy....and certainly if there are any 'disasembling' driving carts! Congrats again!!

Lucy - I think you look fantastic. You are rightly proud of her for being such a star. I'm not sure why your judge was so negative about the open bridle although I hadn't thought about it having to be a driving bridle. I think it showed his/her level of understanding of driving and horsemanship to suggest you change your harness in order to conform visually rather than because of any inherent problem with the way she goes. If you were entering a private drive class I can see that it would matter but not in exercise. Regards the bit - there are a number of tradtiional driving bits including a Wilson which is a jointed snaffle with extra rings (it is used in light trade classes) so I can't see why they shoudl feel so strongly about the liverpool. If you can face going out again I'm sure you will have a more positive reception especially if you go before a BDS judge. I don't think the show is affiliated. Try Le trec as apparently the only ponies known to compete with open bridles are in le Trec. Well done you both what an achievement

I looked into sidesaddle, Pam, when I thought I wouldn't be able to ride astride because of my hip. You can hire sidesaddles to "have a go" and there are a quite few people who give tuition. My instructor was really positive about it (I had Alfie at the time) and said she was sure Alf would adapt to sidesaddle with no problem. He did have a long back though - which is perfect for sidesaddle. why not give it a go - you'd look ever so elegant riding sidesaddle on Harvs.

Thanks for that Sue. Irene is also encouraging me to try it out - she used to ride side saddle many years ago so I'm sure could help me and there are a couple of people round here who compete at higher levels and also instruct so that will be a starting point. If you have any contact numbers for people who fit and hire out side saddles please let me know. I would also like to contact who ever it is who owns Westwick Laura and find out about their side saddle. Harvey is exceptionally short backed, even for a Dales of his height, so that might be a problem.

Those are wonderful! What I love is how her little ears are constantly on the go, listening to you throughout. She looks so cute with that cart, very smart
