My friend was driving her bay pony four in-hand and catton hall, she does all the BHDTA nationals and qualifiers etc, i even went to denmark with her to represent Great Britain, It was fab, Im hoping when my 2yr old Akehurst Secret Beau is older he will make a great driving pony and hopfully compete nationally

Wow it sounds like your mate is very serious! I would love to be at that level but have about 10 years of learning in between then and now!! Who is she? Lucky you to have the opportunity to work with someone like that it will give you so much experience! Macca is doing so well in the carriage he has just totally taken to it as a duck to water and he is much more powerfull than Sporty and I think he will be in the horse section by the time he is done growing but I don't mind as I think he will easily keep up and they will be really nippy. He is so laid back which I hope means he will negate Sportys hyperactivity!! SO I'm sure your pony will take to it really well too. Personally I recomend steering clear of the X country section till they are about five and very experienced in the carriage as I think it can blow their minds as well as stressing their joints but that is just me. I loved doing a bit of showing and Trec competitions with Sport and it brought him on just right as it made us practice our schooling but he also got out and saw the world. I can't wait to see another Dales on the scene who knows one day I may attempt the nationals. I'm sure you will have loads of fun with him and I wish you the very best of luck with your venture. Look forward to seeing you out there!! It is such fun!!

i dont know if you've heard of her, her names sarah-jane cook, shes got a bay pony team ( plus 1 chestnut) and is usually in the carriage driving magazine, i dont work for her im just really good friends with her and help her when ever i can, mits great experience as ive learnt so much about the national circuit, at the moment i drive a man called Dick Carey's ponies, i compete then indoors in the south east and outdoor club level, kast season i drove tandem indoors, that was very entertaining for the spectators!! so that a sport i really hope my pony will take to so me and mum can do it together,

Wow it sounds like you are really fantastic!! How exciting if you have any piccies it would be so fun. I'm sure I have heard the name of your friend but as I haven't got to national level yet all the names are still new. What's it like to drive a tandem? Is it as complex as everyone says? I am just in the middle of putting together a pair of section A s as well as my dales to practice on and I would love to try tandem towards the end of this season. Although I think I am a while off of attempting anything against the clock!! How great to have someone like you on this site. Will you be going to the EADCG Ashfields (Stanstead) event in April with anyone, it often attracts all you high flyers as it is a really nice pre season opener? My biggest ambition is to go to Sandringham (our club event which runs at the same time as the national) so if you are heading to either of those let me know?

Hi, If you go on the BHDTA website and click on photo album then either the catton link or something and click on her name you will see her, yes im going to ashfields to groom for my friend, and hopfully sandringham national (sandringham is a nice marathon), and quite a few more like brighton (thats always a good one) driving a tandem is not as hard as it seems once you get into it, the key is you've got to have a good leader, im planning on doing more club events this season, i only did Normanhurst last year but what to do borde hill and normanhurst plus a couple of other club ones with the section B i drive.

Wow it seems like you have quite a season on your hands! Lucky you! Tell me why are you swapping your sec B for a dales? Why did you decide on them as a breed? I will look forward to meeting you at Ashfields, touch wood everyone is sound and well! Is there a big difference between club and national level?

The welsh ponies belong to dick carey so there not mine, i own Beau so will want to drive my own pony when hes ready, i wont give up on the welsh's as there great fun. to be honest national and club is the same! its just the price that is different, heres an example of the Normanhurst national that i did last year, you all do the same dressage and cones on the sat, and on the sun everyone does that marathon, (thats a 2 day show) its the same with a 3 day event but possiable the club will only do section E of the marathon, club is just half the price of a national where u havnt got to worry about start fee's and vetting and all that
