That's interesting Zelda.
My figures were: DM% 87.3 Crude Protein: 7 Oil% 2 Ash % 5.8 ME 10.7 sugar% 10.8 starch %1.7 NDF% 70 Fermentable NDF% 34.3
So even higher than yours - worrying isn't it?

Am I right in assuming that both of yours fall in the normal range except for the sugar being at the high end and NDF- what does that mean - is it natural dietary fibre? I think I will have to have my grass analysed!! Although I don't need to be told it is very rich

My letter was much the same except the protein was OK and the sugar and DE rather high - could do with out that!
Lucy - there was an article in Horse Magazine last month saying Dengie would do an analysis of your hay for £3. Seemed good value so I sent in a sample of our home made hay. My results show that my hay is rather higher in feed value than I realised considering it is old, traditional, meadow hay which hasn't been fertilised.

I'll get it for you tomorrow unless Zelda beats me to it. They asked you to send in a "supermarket bag sized sample. The cheque was to be made out to Dengie Crops and addressed to Horse Magazine. I got a very prompt reply.

Lucy it says " Simply half fill a supermarket carrier bag with your hay or haylage and enclose a cheque for £3 as a contribution to the cost, payable to Dengie Crops Ltd. Post to Horse Magazine/Hay Analysis, Dengie Crops, Heybridge Business Centre, 110 The Causeway, Maldon, Essex CM9 4ND. For further info call the feedline 0845 345 5115"I presume it's £3 per sample, I sent mine off last Thurs and got the results today PS drawing - no chance
