katie arrived sat and is in a slightly poorish condition.cant fee ribs but hips are a bit angular. we have put her in a semi grassed field which we intend to move her from it a better field once shes used to the grass and a half scoop alfa oil with vit powder. shes only eating about a mouthful of the alfa and just isnt interested in it. do you think its best to perservere with the alfa toget condition on her or change to a conditioning mix in tiny amounts. we're not sure how much hard feed shes ever had so dont really want to give her big amounts of anythig to start with.

If she were my pony I'd just wait a bit and see how she goes, the new grass is coming through and if you can't feel her ribs I would have thought that her condition can't be too bad, what about just giving her a vit and min supplement in a hand full of ordinary chaff (some ponies don't like the alfa oil) for the time being

Echo Zelda here, if you can't feel ribs I wouldn't worry. The grass is starting to grow and she'll put condition on more naturally with good old Dr Green.
Alfalfa is actually very bitter so quite a few ponies don't like it.

If you really want to give her something then I can't recommend the TopSpec balancers enough,. They do an anti-lam version which would give her all her trace elements to allow her to build up well without getting fat.
If you give conditioning mix in small amounts she may not get all the trace elements she needs in a balanced way.
Most balancer companies also do versions with more protein. Rose is going onto normal TopSpec from Anti-lam tomorrow as foalie needs more protein now.

And I've had great results with Blue Chip Original - half the suggested amount has kept Bea's condition spot on over winter.
