I have been using Spillers Pasture Plus forage balancer for a good while and it suited James well. Spillers have discontinued it because they weren't selling enough!! They suggested Equivite Original to me which comes as a powder rather than pencils. Does anyone use this?
If not have you any suggestions? James is on grass or hay the majority of the time so I like to give him a multi-vitamin/trace elements supplement to make for any deficiencies in the grazing.

I feed Formula 4 Feet. It is expensive but it is supposed to help with Insulin resistance and some of the money goes to the Laminitis Clinic. It comes in little pellets and mine love it and look great on it.

I have used Formula Feet and the horses did like it. With the good doers I use Simple System balancer and with the QHs I use Top Spec as they don't thrive as well.

What do you pay for Formula 4 Feet and Baileys Lo-Cal?
I can find Simple Systems website but can't find the balancer listed, does it have a name and how do you get hold of it?
Formula 4 Feet looks very similar to Pasture Plus but Baileys don't give as much info.
The last bucket of PP I bought was just over £16.

If you go onto simple systems web page, the product is called Total Eclipse and on the ordering page you put in your post code and they will tell you your nearest delivery bod or place you can pick it up from.

If you are going to try it, ask for a small sample. Most horses seem to love it but my lot refused to touch it!

Not sure what I paid for my last Lo-Cal. It lasts so long I am only on my second sack of the year, it is way cheaper than Blue Chip etc but still has yea-saac and stuff in it and ponies always look so well on it.

I used to use Equivite and didn't think I had a problem. I moved to TopSpec balancers around 18 months ago now and wouldn't move back to Equivite unless I really couldn't afford the TopSpec any more. I'm in the same position as you, my lot get grass and hay with some chaff in a bucket at night. I know our soil is mineral deficient as the farmers warned me about it when we moved in, it's mainly peat so the nutrients leach out of it quickly.
With the TopSpec I've noticed they all seem calmer, more laid back and their muscle tone and general health has improved. Their coats and hooves are amazing. I've used both the Anti-lam and the normal stuff and they also do a powder form. TS do advise that you can feed it at half levels which makes it the same cost as the Equivite. I feed at about two thirds the recommended dose and that suits mine really well.
I also have friends who've used Equilibra and Blue Chip balancers with similar results, it seems some balancers suit some horses better than others. I assume it is down to the grazing and soil nutrients at their location but haven't found anything that tests this theory.

Thank you, I'll see what I can get hold of from my local feed merchant.

i use topspec comprehensive for felix as hes still growing an give it at 2/3rds the recommended level and baileys stud balancer for maddy as shes preggy. they both look fantasitc with just those and grass 24/7 but i am a major top spec convert as felix has never looked better since he went on it last year.

Having tried out a few balancers have finally found one that seems to suit - TopSpec Anti-Lam. Really noticed the difference in the last few days.

That's the one I use and it seems to suit all 3 of mine.
