After the loss of our beloved Sticks in September, we felt we were ready to have a dog again. The house just felt empty without. However, selfish as it may sound, and as we recently recarpeted throughout, a puppy was not the way to go!! So, we looked for a young dog that needed a new home. We didnt want another Labrador, as we felt we might compare the two, which is unfair. My OH had big dogs when he was younger so we looked down the larger size line. Plus these types are more difficult to rehouse due to size. Anyway, we found Bella!!! She is 8 months old - a Bullmastif x Rottweiller We have had her 2 weeks now - are currently ironing out a few naughty, unacceptable habits (like laying on my leather sofa!!) but she is a little darling! Just not so little! Her current favourite passtimes are digging out my potted tree in the conservatory, chewing trainers, and taking anything that isnt hers! Her favourite toy is not all the chewwy ones we have spend £'s on for her - Nope - its a lump of concrete that she has found in the back garden!!!

Is that like the kids playing with the box the toy came in? Bella lives up to her name ~ she's beautiful! And good on you for giving an older, larger girlie a home I agree, these larger, older pups can be harder to find homes for, and you get to skip that whole 'housetraining' issue. She really is a lovely lovely girl. I'm sure any 'issue's will go the wayside in no time. Congratulations on your new addition

She's gorgeous and I see she has already become a part of your family. I don't think it is at all selfish not wanting to go for a puppy - the older dogs are harder to rehome and can need a lot more work to iron out any bad habits.
lol at the concrete! Bella sounds like a real character!

How on earth can you call yourself selfish when you have taken on a rescue dog. Especially one of those proportions! Not everyone would be happy giving a home to a dog that size! I think rescue dogs are just so rewarding. Scruff wasn't trained when we got him, he wasn't house trained, didn't know how to walk to heel, stay, down or sit. He only ever had 3 accidents in the house as we were very careful and he learned the rest of it in about three weeks!
I'm sure you will iron out Bella's few problems and you will have a very grateful, loyal dog. She sounds a bit of a character and looks a lovely dog.
