Okay, where's my scientific peeps? Explain what I just did to my finger please? I just got in from giving Blossom a brand new salt lick. Since there's snow in the back of the pickup, it was a touch bit slick already. I thought nothing of it, packed it over to Blossom's field and set it in the traditional spot next to the water. And then my index finger started hurting ~ a lot Honestly, I feel like I've had it against a liquid nitrogen container. Do you think the salt block got supercooled somehow? Luckily there doesn't seem to be any damage, but gosh its tender now. LOL...I'm a bit whiney this week, aren't I ;D

Sounds as if you have a freeze burn Debbie...better watch out it doesn't develop into a chilblain .. Have you any cream you can rub on?

It finally quit hurting last night. I think I did get a freezer burn, Leann !!! Memo to me: don't do that again. It hurt waaaay more than a chillblain. I'm trying to remember my rusty science, but its something to do with the salt slurry. Somehow the salt can lower the temperature of the water below freezing, but I can't remember how cold. Something to do with the ion transfers...definitely an exothermic reaction. Luckily there's no lasting damage. The skin and muscling all look to be totally fine. No harm, no foul ;D
