HOORAY!! Fitter has been and repaired it - the pump and bearings had gone (no wonder it had been sounding like it was about to blow up LOL!). The weather here has been FREEZING and I've been sitting with about five layers on, now waiting for the rads to heat up!! Thank goodness this didn't happen on Christmas Day - bit close for comfort though Fingers crossed no more disasters ;D

So glad you got it fixed Gill! Does it work better than ever then? Do you still have to choose between cooking and heating?

Glad you got it sorted Gill. Our Rayburn packed in a couple of weeks ago leaving us with no central heating or oven. The engineer claimed it was beyond repair and was recommending we had a reconditioned aga fitted, plus separate central heating boiler. Luckily I called out another engineer for a 2nd opinion because he got it sorted within 10 minutes!

So glad you got it fixed Gill! Does it work better than ever then? Do you still have to choose between cooking and heating? I won't know that until summer Linda, when I don't have the central heating on!! In winter it's fine ;D Jay so lucky you went for a second opinion ! I think I'd have done the same if someone suggested buying a new one! At least you know who to call next time ...

SO glad you got it sorted Gill - what a time for it to go!
Our AGA went about 5 years ago some point in the night of 24th December, Mum did Christmas dinner for 8 on a two ring electric baby belling (with teeny oven). Luckily we do our turkey very slowly over night, so that was practically cooked by the morning when the AGA finally went cold. It was certainly one of those memorable Christmases!

Brrr!! Hope he gets it fixed for you tomorrow, well it's already today for you so hope it's fixed now. As for the turkey, just deep fry it like the Cajuns do here. Lets see, you'll just need a cooking pot big enough to hold 5 gallons of peanut oil, a butane burner to get the oil boiling hot & it cooks in 30 - 40 minutes. Careful with all that hot oil though not to set the house on fire, so it's usually done outside.

Phew! Glad you got it sorted in time!
LOL at your Baby Belling Christmas, Olivia! I can see why that was a very memorable christmas!
Blimey, Nancy, that sounds a really scary and dangerous way of cooking a turkey! Is that the regular Cajun way of doing it then? No wonder they do it outside!

I wonder why it is that these things always go at the most inconvenient time - now why couldn't this have happened during summer . Anyway I am just glad to be warm again!! Although I've spent most of today outdoors anyway ...

I know Gill, that's what I always ask and Andy is quick to tell me it is because the cold stresses the boiler forcing it to work hard and highlighting any weaknesses ........... At least you've got it all working in time for Christmas.
