It's horrible isn't it.
I had to have a major clear out when I moved house and I was really struggling. What I had to do was set myself some very strict rules, then follow them to the letter. My rules were - anything I'd not worn for six months, plus anything that was the wrong size for me now (so too small or too big) got chucked. Stuff I was getting rid was sorted into three piles: Sell at a car boot Sent to charity shop Thrown away/used as rags.
That way I didn't feel like clothes were being wasted. The only exception I made to this rule were two pairs of johds and my two ball gowns which I will never wear again, but have such good memories I wouldn't want to get rid of them.
Good luck - and I don't envy you one little bit

I tried something similar just before Christmas but with me it was a lot easier as I have put on far too much weight and it was a question of what won't fit me. [then bin it or charity shop it] I can remember on a"" What not to wear type programme giving someone some advice once about clearing out their clutter and they told them that if they hadn't worn it in a year, you would be most unlikley to ever wear it again so get rid. If only it was that easy ;D

LOL Bev I know what you mean! However I got so fed up with piles of clothes on top of bedroom furniture because they couldn't fit inside it, I had a big sort out last week and got rid of loads of t-shirts. I still need to sort my wardrobe and get rid of office clothes that I haven't worn for years - not to mention the MANY coats I have - so many that some are in a barn

I don't often get to the cupboards to sort them out but when I do, I have a rule for everything as well as clothes. If I haven't worn it/used it in one year it gets recycled or goes to the charity shop.
The only exception to this is my wedding dress and a "flapper" dress that does for the occasional fancy dress party.
Get ruthless Bev! The feeling of space and organisation will make it worth it!

LOL Bev! I am the opposite. I get frequent "wardrobe clear it out" whims and get rid of loads of stuff - not just clothes but there is nothing worse than hanging on to clothes that don't fit you any more. Then a few months later I regret it or Andy starts looking for something I've thrown out....... I do keep certain "special" items though for nostalgic reasons.

I have a pair of trousers that a boyfriend bought me when i was 16 - so they are a good 22 years old and do NOT fit any more, but he was killed by a drunk driver and I can't part with them.
I had a big clear out between Christmas and New Year - a bag for the bin (very embarassing things in that one!), a bag to go to the shed for cloths, and a big bag for charity.
And the wardrobe(s) are still full!!

LOL....Bev ;D ! I don't know where Mum used to stash them, but we would rotate our clothes in the closet from summer to winter. She'd box up whichever season we weren't using.... and I daresay she threw out a lot when we weren't looking. I've tried thinning my clothes as the others have, using the 'if you haven't worn it in a year' rule, but I find myself digging the clothes right back out of the bag and putting them back. I'm with Anne, hopeless !! Utterly hopeless

No cloths gets thrown out unless they are falling apart. Once they have passed their good stage they then are handed down as farm / pony cloths.
