Has anyone tried it? I did years ago and it worked then but I fell off the wagon big style. I'm thinking of going back as I need to do something. Can't decide wether to just try calorie counting at home or try a group for support.

I think it depends on how much willpower you have! You may need group support and encouragement for it to work best. I've never found any kind of 'proper' diet works for me, although I've had a few friends who've tried Weight Watchers etc and got some weight off (don't know if they kept it off though!). I've lost weight by totally cutting out all the rubbish such as cakes, sweets, biscuits, crisps etc. and not eating late in the evening. I can still have the odd indulgence providing I make up for it in other ways - for instance yesterday I had a hankering for chocolate cake so cut myself a huge slice at lunchtime but was all I ate until my main meal - still didn't put on weight (but regretted eating the cake lol). My main weakness is in the evening when I often feel peckish but that is the time I MUST NOT eat!! I find it's much harder to lose weight now though than when I was younger, I am sure your metabolism slows right down once you are of a 'more mature' age. I am also doing exercises every day (50 situps morning and evening and cross trainer for 10 mins). It's hard work past 40!!

Gill's so right - it IS hard work past 40.
Slimmers World does work - but I don't think it's healthy (sorry) and shouldn't be a long-term eating plan. The only plan I would consider is weight watchers because you can eat a "normal" diet - just less of it and generally avoiding the baddies (although some baddies are allowed if you earn them).
My weight management just involves smaller portions and no snacking. I have to grit my teeth and walk past the cheese counters!! LOL Fruit and veg is "free" though....and often a glass of water deals with hunger pangs.

I found slimming world the best diet that i have ever followed. It was a couple of years ago i did it now, but it worked and the nice thing is i never felt hungry whilst on it. I found red days worked the best as i have PCOS, but found i did have to do a green day now and then if i did start feeling hungry. It meant the meals worked out well as OH had the same, just had lots of extra Jacket Potatoes. All meals are started from scratch so no prepacked meals, which i just hate.
I have to disagree with you SuzieP about slimming world not being Healthy, eating lots of fruit and veg not healthy??? Weight watches was no good for me as i was short which meant i really couldn't eat much of anything and got hungry very quickly, which is the worst thing whilst dieting.

Hi Loopylou - Its the red days and the green days that I consider unhealthy in SW. Why did being short mean that you couldn't eat much on WW - 18 points is the lowest number of points a day that anyone has to get through - and that's quite a lot (depending, of course, on what you choose to eat). And you can add loads more points by exercising - and save them up if you know you're going to be going out for a meal or something.
I don't do any of these diets now - just have smaller portions.
Just re-read your post, Loopyloo and it's got me thinking. The red days/green days thing that used to be SW was protein only on red days and minimal carbs, and veg only on green days with no protein. It's YEARS since I last looked at which diet to go on....has it changed since then? I was worried that it was getting dangerously close to Atkins.....
