Well I had my first lesson yesterday, we didn't actually do any teaching/learning - he just wanted to find out what I knew already, what I wanted to do etc. He did give me a piece to have a go with before my next lesson. So today I practiced Hail to the King, which I can now play the first half very very badly, but only if no one's listening. As soon as mum came along I was all thumbs again! The problem with having a bit of musical background I can hear how badly I'm really playing - I can't hit the keys all at the same pressure so there is no depth to the music - just notes. BUT there is a tune, and it's vaguely in tempo, and I'm doing both hands at once!!! So it's a start

Its a start! You'll be your own worst enemy, but just remember you have to learn to walk before you can run. Give yourself time and patience.

sounds like you are doing very well - presumably these are piano lessons? I have missed a lot I'm afraid. If so, I am full of admiration. My mother was a music teacher and in her early life and as a student she earned her way as a concert pianist working alongside opera singers etc. I could read music, but was always completely overwhelmed by her presence when playing any instrument, so consequently the piano was not the instrument for me, playing with thumbs is not an option. It sounds as if you are mastering it well though, two hands is good as it is a lot harder than we may think to organise them along the keyboard as they ought to be.

Don't be so critical on yourself. Well done. I wouldn't know where to start.
