I thought I would pick your brains to see if you know of any possibles. The scenario is that I currently work shifts and have done for 20 years now.Whilst this results in good pay and I dont hate shifts as such,I am now getting fed up with having a restricted social life. This has come to head as I have been turned down for time off 3 times now when things I wanted to do have come up on work days ( 2 ghost hunts and an invite to a posh ball) and also may not be able to go to Hickstead as working on those days. So.I have been trying to work out a way of earning extra income that I could fit around doing a job share of my current job. That would mean me working 6 days(2 x 6am-4pm, 2 x 4pm-2am , 2 x 10pm-6am) then having 14 days off. I would need to earn around £14,000 whatever I did those days to pay mortgage etc. I suspect it is an impossible task.I have been doing a book keeping course but either the course has few errors in it or I am very very thick, so that is going very slowly. Actually just typing this has made me realise I am clutching at straws.... but no harm in asking.

I suspect it is an impossible task.) I too suspect it will be an impossible task!!! Is there no one at work who will swap shifts with you now and again when you have something on? You could return the favor sometime. I work shifts too so I know what its like, but I have a few people who will change rest days or shifts with me sometimes.

Thanks anyway.... I have tried that but I think everyone is so fed up being messed around at the moment that the days are precious.....and they have all been weekends as well so that makes them even more precious!
Ah well.... Someone here said that you have more chance of handcuffing a ghost than getting time off...So I said its precisely to catch a ghost I want the time off...lol
Ah well...back to praying for that lottery win!

I think you should stick with the book keeping! I am a trainee accountant, and I see how much book keepers can charge!! Have you considered doing AAT intermediate level? it is not too hard, is a NVQ level 3 and qualifies you as a registered book keeper! I'd give you the odd bit of help if you wanted it! I know totally what you mean about wanting more time, mine isnt as bad as yours, I work 830-5 but in winter than means riding time is restricted to weekends, so my plan is to qualify as a certified accountant then go work for myself or part time, but shhhh dont tell my work lol.

Thanks Nic.... Thats why I chose it to study...but I may have chosen wrong home study course as I found a few errors in the examples so now have no faith in the assessment I am trying to do. I am sure I am not that thick ...well hope not anyway...lol. I was hoping to sit exam next month but will have to cancel as not quite ready.
I think you are right, and it is the way to go. Who knows..may be able to go totally self employed and then do what I want..... I did wonder about having a look at another home study course but it means another £200-£400 .
And your plan sounds spot on to me....and I will whisper so your employers dont hear.....lol
