im trying my best now to not buy any products that use eggs that are from battery eggs. i was wondering if a product is organic, say pasta, does that mean it uses free range eggs??

I would like to have this confirmed too. From what has been said lately in the media, organic pasta means it has to contain free range eggs but free range doesn't have to be organic. However, in the past organic meant hens being fed with organically grown feed etc and so it would be possible (though unlikely) to have organic battery hens. I am rather confused but I suspect the soil association organic ratings have changed over the years.

iv had my second veg box today and im again very pleased with it.. they do pasta at boxfresh so iv asked if it contains free range eggs.
also i had a fruit bag today and it came in a plactic carrior bag!! how silly is that. my tomatoes came in a paper bag so why put the fruit in a plastic one?? iv asked about that to as i dont want carrier bags as iv brought the bag for life type ones so have no need to use them..

well i emailed asking about th plastic bag and the pasta,
here is my reply.
Hi Rowena, thank you for your email. Our packaging is a work in progress so please bear with us while we get things sorted! We had been using eco-friendly bags up until Autumn last year but ran out! This then coincided with a rebranding procedure which we are currently undergoing. As the quantities that need to be ordered are prohibitive for smaller numbers, we are waiting until the rebranding is finalised to reorder, and as soon as we do those biodegradable bags will be winging their way to you! Until they do, feel free to send us the carrier bags back as we can reuse them. Our recycling policy here is that we recycle everything - our paper, our cardboard, our plastic and even our wooden crates! As for the pasta, BOXfresh Organics only sells organic produce; this means that the products are made with entirely free-range and organic produce. There is no egg used in our pasta incidentally, it is made from 100% organic durum wheat flour. Hope this helps!

Good reply.
I always wondered if organic and free range went hand-in-hand, and I'm sure that Hugh F-W said all organic meat birds are free range, so it stands to reason that egg layers would be too with a bit of luck.

Row - we have Woodlands Organics from Lincolnshire www.woodlandsfarm.co.uk/ Linda put me on to them and they are excellent. We have a medium vegetable box which is huge and have extra fruit with it. They also do organic lamb, beef, eggs and turkey. We are spoilt for organic meat and veg round here - lots of local farms selling their produce so I really don't know why most people still use the supermarkets.

How much does everyone pay for their boxes?
I get a veg box with veg and 6 eggs (as my pesky chooks aren't laying!) for £10 per week.
This week it had spuds, onions, carrots, parsnips, leeks, mushrooms, a cauli, cooking and eating apples, more than two of us eat in a week! Usually we get a cabbage and a lettuce.
