but it's not one of these it's one of these www.theowl.com/buy.php, it's excellent you can really see how much electricity you are using, and it does make you go round switching off lights and all sorts of other things ;D we seem to have a background level of about 1kw most of the time

Haven't seen or heard of these before Zelda!! looks a good piece of kit. Did you get any of the accessories that go with it?

That looks interesting Zelda, might have to get one of them for our house! Although I think the appliance which uses up the most electricity (during winter anyway) is the tumble drier.

Mmmm, that might just push us into replacing our 32 year old chest freezer.

Mmmm, that might just push us into replacing our 32 year old chest freezer. Crumbs Pam...that must be some kind of record!! What make is it? I doubt the modern ones would last as long as that

It's a Kelvinator. Don't know if they still exist but they were very solidly built! It was one of my fierst big buys when I first moved into a home of my own so feel quite sentimental about it! I'm quite sure the modern ones won't last as long.

My parents had a Fridgedaire fridge freezer for 20 years ..it then spent approx another 5 years at Johns surgery looking after the insulin etc that needed to be kept cool before it finally gave up the ghost poor thing. I know what you mean about feeling a litrtle attached to them I felt a bit sad when J told me it had died>

Its like my parents tumble dryer....Dad's repairing it, and its easily lasted 33 years.
I think that's a brilliant idea Zelda. I know my brother was warning me about unplugging stuff. He's gotten into a lot of 'being green', and he says you'd be amazed at the amount of electricity an appliance uses even when you've switched it off.

Leann ,we just got the basic kit (B&Q were selling them at £30) we are really impressed with it, and it does make you think twice before switching on that extra heater or leaving the lights on in a room. WOW I can't believe all these old appliances mine don't last that long
