Now I've had the ponies' other field cut and baled I have the awkward decision of whether to put them on it! They have kept so well on their present field since March and I'm loathe to see their bellies swell up again. Cherry is the only one who looks like she could do with a bit more weight but the others are looking very well! There seems to be hardly any grass but their droppings are still like cow pats, so they are obviously getting something.
Trouble is if I don't move them then the grass will grow too long in no time. I think I will have no alternative but to strip graze them, even then that is bound to put on weight. I really need a large flock of sheep that I dont have to look after lol!
Sigh, it's not easy keeping these natives is it?!

Judging by how often Joe has to mow our lawn I think the grass is growing really quickly at the moment so they are probably getting more than you think in their present field. It's so hard deciding what to do isn't it?

Yes, it is a really tough decision, isn't it? Strangely, the grass here hasn't been growing that much and the cattle people here are saying there hasn't been enough goodness in the grass this summer for their animals so maybe it won't be as bad as you think?
