I'm thinking about getting a troxel hat for driving and quite like the look of the Spirit. Trouble is no-one near me seems to stock them for me to try on. Has anyone got one, and do they come up to a similar size as a normal hat, and how comfortable are they?

I find they perch on top of my head, Kim, and my skull doesn't feel cradled in them. I think you'd need to try one on. The Champion is a good lightweight hat which has a deeper fit - but they don't stock them in Rideaway. I think Vanda (taffydales) can get them though. She's getting a fab lightweight hat for me that I tried on at Gill's dalesfans gathering a couple of weeks ago. The medium was a good fit on me and it had pieces of padding to "refine" the fit.

LOL, I really fancied the purple one.
Thanks for the info Sue, you're right and I'm going to have to find somewhere that sells them so I can try one on, but they do look perfect for driving.

Steve loves his and had had it for a couple of years now. I just couldnt get away with it at all and felt like it would fall off! I really think its an individual thing that suits one head shape and not another. You really need to try them.

I tried one years ago when they first came out, it felt a bit wierd but the local saddler said take it and try and pay for it next week. So i did. I fell off on the first day and split the inner padding - oops! At that time if you fell off they wanted the hat back to look at and they replaced free of charge, when the replacement came I took it back to the shop and said it wasn't quite for me. LOL (the shop did know the whole story so I wasn't diddling anybody)
I now have an Onyx which is lightweight and comfy and doesn't look too bad but I have to admit some of the driving hats look pretty funky.

I have a Troxel spirit and love it!! It's light, doesn't make my head hot and the wind blows through the vents!!! Mine is a medium, it toook a while to get it to fit comfortably but by re-arranging the inserts I got it fine. A lot of endurance people wear them because they are so light and airy.

I have a Troxel Laredo for use in hot weather. It really is good for keeping me cooler. It does take some getting used to the feeling of the different shape and somehow feels less protective than my standard skull cap, but it has the kitemarks to show it is up to standard. It's comfortable & quite adjustable - comes with extra padding strips to create a snug fit. I do like it it's just very different to my "everyday" hat. I got mine mail order from Ride Away after trying some on at shows. My Charles Owen skull is a size 1 (6+ 3/4), the Troxel is size small.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to ring round tomorrow and see where the nearest shop is that has them in.
