I'm sure this has been covered before but can't remember the verdict. I reckon Merlin needs to wear a grazing muzzle to stop him turning into a complete blob. I've seen good reports of the best friends muzzle and bad reports about the Green guard muzzle. Has anyone got any personal experience/recommendations/advice on how to introduce it, length of grass etc etc (I will be checking with the vet first just to make sure its okay to muzzle Fatty after his Gastric Impaction episode at Christmas)

I haven't had much success with either. The best friends one rubbed and Holly learned to get round the greenguard one within 5 mins. However i sold my greenguard one to a friend and her pony wasn't clever enough to get round it. I think they twig it straight away or not at all!! Do you know anyone you could borrow off of and see which one suits best? Jo x

Thats useful to know Jo - I suspect Merlin would probably be one of the ones that twig it. (He knows 3 different ways to untie himself, 2 ways to remove his headcollar or bridle and 1 way to unfasten the gate...) I'll ask around and see if anyone has one i can borrow.

I had a greenguard for D! Not for him at all! Rubbed all his face sore, and I got a call from the lady that lives next to the field to say he had got it stuck around the side of his face with the straps running through his mouth and what should she do as he looked very unhappy!!! I persevered for 2 weeks with it - until the phone call and then, enough was enough!
I was so mad I e-mailed Shires (I think it was) that sell on behalf on Greenguard in the UK. They advised me that it comes with a full 12month money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied. So it went back to the shop, with the the e-mail, came back out with my money and returned to my crusty faced pony!!!!

Alison I've got a Greenguard one you can try, I don't have the headcollar for it - I bought it before they made them

I've put my BestFriend one on ebay, it's brand new and the deluxe one wiht the headcollar attachment - along with half the impulse buys of the past couple of years that never made it out of the bag/box either... Just sold some Old Macs I bought for Rosie who I then sold without ever trying them on her - lost nearly £30 in the process but at least they're gone!
I've a bundle of rugs and stuff to go too but think the postage might be more than the sale price but I'm working my way through bits, tapes, books, travel boots, muzzles, foalslips, I never knew I had so much stuff!

I know a few people who use them without too much problem, the main hassle being 'good people' taking them off and throwing them away!

I had one for Bobs Alison but they only come in two sizes (pony and full) and neither fit Bobs. He soon learnt to move the full one aside and the pony size squashed his mouth.
