I have been looking at saddle bags and riding tights on this site: www.performance-equestrian.com/index.htmlI just wondered if anyone had any views on their riding tights? Is it just another name for jodpurs or are they different? I like the sound of the quick drying properties after getting soaked yesterday! Also like the options they offer. Has anyone used the saddlebags?

Linda, I've used the ones that Goldfinch make. These look like they come in a greater choice of fabrics. I've always found mine very comfortable and less restrictive than jods. The only problem is, they show off the bumps more!

I've not had a look at these particular ones but will check them out. I have always worn the Musto snug jods which I imagine are similar and find them incredibley comfortable and quick drying. But, as Jacqui says, they do show up your bumps and as of last week I decided to go back to my normal jods for extra thigh and bum support! Not nearly as comfortable though.

I don't care what I look like - I look silly enough on D anyway! LOL! But I DO want to be comfortable if I'm going to do these longs rides on a weekly basis. I also want a decent saddlebag to put my map, picnic, apples and maybe the odd bottle of wine in! (In a plastic bottle of course!) Can you imagine it - finding a beautiful place to stop in the middle of nowhere, pony on leadrope having a munch, eating a picnic swilled down with a glass of of wine - HEAVEN!

Drunk in charge of a pony! Will you teach D to map read just in case?! Think I'll have to join you.

I'm not quite drunk after one glass Jacqui! I have the rest of the bottle while I'm cleaning the tack! Ususally on an empty tummy as I clean the tack before I cook dinner or else it doesn't get done. That results in posts like the awful ones I posted last night! LOL!

Linda, you do not look silly on D at all!! You have such a lovely figure it makes me envious every time I see you riding her!! Lol! I always buy thick jods to hold my bumps in place!

No idea about saddle bags sorry, but a canoeing shop might be the best place to look for a waterproof bum bag?

I got my bum bag from a climbing shop. It has heaps of pockets nd is totally waterproof. I wrap my bandages in plastic bags as a double precaution though.
I have riding tights - they have a very padded gusset for your bottom, and lovely big pads for your knees. They are very stretchy and don't restrict your movement at all. They do dry very quickly (bear in mind that endurance riders sloch gallons of water on their horses and therefore themselves). I would recommend them to anyone. Cool in the summer too, though not particularly wind proof. I'm not sure if the standard ones have the padded gusset, I would certainly recommend that for your long rides!
I have Caldene ones as well, they are 4 years old now and are starting to look a bit tired. But they have done over 600km of competitive miles, with all the training miles too, so I don't think they owe me anything!

The knee and gussett padding is extra and well worth it, if you have a perfect dressage seat - and a lot of ldr people ride long, then there are bits of your anatomy that deserve to be protected I really notice the difference when I dont wear them, I have two pairs of the Golfinch ones which were a lot cheaper and nothing like as good .... Im definately going to add another pair of the 70 quid riding tights to my Christmas list. My old ones are about 6 years old and beginning to sag. They are definately not glamour wear - but soo worth it

I have been on the look out for saddle bags too. If you find a decent one, let me know Linda. I got my bumbag from an outdoor shop. But when I go on my long rides, I could do with a saddle bag for carrying supplies, and a waterproof, as the weather round here seems to change in an instant.

There are some saddlebags in the Rideaway catalogue - not sure if they are waterproof though. We all seem to be looking for the same thing! LOL
