Does anyone know anything about Renault master lorries? Thinking about trading in my trailer for a two horse lorry, but yet to find one. Any thoughts?

Dont know about renaults but presume you are after a 3.5t wagon? If you have a licence to drive a 7.5t wagon Id get a bigger lorry personally- the 3.5t wagons are very limited weight wise as far as I know. Plus they tend to be incredibly expensive as they're all newer drivers can drive without another test (1997 cut off). Ive bought an LT35- cheap to do up. If you go for an LT get a nice one as parts are a complete nightmare Ive found for older models.... and what is available is more expensive than the wagon... Id love a renault mater look wise but Id have to get it weighed prior- doubt you could legally carry 2 horses or even 2 dales..

I got rid of my 7.5 ton lorry. Too expensicve to run because of plating, fuel costs etc.
I bought a Renault Master van, built for me by MD Commercials. It's great. It takes 2 of mine in at a time and as it is an 03 model, it has the new Renault engine and copes very well with the hills in Yorkshire.
They take up to 16.2hh but I had the roof insulated for the comfort of the horses, so that means it can now only take 16hh. Perfect for me though. It is so economical.
It can be upgraded weight wise to 3.9 ton although that put sit into a seperate catagory for MOT and tax, but it's an easy job to do if you need the extra weight.
It's much more stable than the LT35 and the engine is much better than the old Renault model (I've had one in the past- lovely box but a bit short on power up big hills).
As far as I'm concerned it's worth every penny

After owning trailers for years I have got a Vauxhall Movano (same as Renault Master) and LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! As does my pony who can't wait to get in it and yet she used to be traumatised by my trailer which was a brand new, cost an arm and a leg Bateson. I bought my van and had it converted.

Thanks all sounds pretty good! Like the idea of the low ramp - handy for transporting other things too.- teenage boys at uni!
Have had trailers for years but now ancient towing vehicle needs changing so deciding which way to go.

I like the big square coachbuilt ones, but less keen on the van type ones. (at least for over 14.2hh)
The ramps are great and they are really easy to drive. We have just sold our horsebox and gone back to a trailer and 4wd. Make sure you buy one from a reputable company that knows what it is talking about re weight capacity.
I think trailer and car is much more adaptable.

I'm dithering as to whether to change my lorry for a Master van - I'm tempted by the easier drive but will have to compromise on space, so still undecided!

I've had coachbuilt and van type and to be honest, I've found no difference in stability at all. Sabina is the tallest- fraction over 15.2hh and she copes very well. I just feel so much more confident now and we wizz around here there and everywhere.
