Can anyone recommend reasonably-priced half chaps - for flat work, mainly in a riding school, only. I hate anything bulky clothing-wise when riding, but accept I need a bit more protection than jodhs and short boots! Thanks ...

I use Just Chaps ones and like them a lot. think they were about £20. I've seen Muck Boot ones too, they look nice.

I'd recommend the Loveson ones I bought recently, cost about £24, nice and light but still stretchy for those calf muscles. Had Shires ones before but they were a bit bulky.

I would recommend Loveson ones as well, very light and thin, but do the job well. Sorry carolj, but i brought mine for about £18. I expect they are a slightly different model. The ones i have are great, as you can sling them in the washing machine, time after time. I also have big calves, but shorts legs and they still fit, not like some makes.

Shire are quite good, very lightweight and the suedette ones go in the washing machine.
