As it is getting to that time of year to start thinking about buy rugs i was wondering who has shire or derby house rugs and what do you think of them. I need to get a couple of rugs for my new (ish) boy who is a connie. I am a Weatherbeeta rug person through and through, but both Derby house and shires have got some good prices rugs and i just want some views from those that have them or used them in the past.

I have just bought D a fly sheet from derby house and it is fantastic! Great value for money!
For outdoor wear, i have learnt my lesson though - never again will I deviate from the 'better' brands like Weatherbeeta/ Horseware etc! The 'cheaper' outdoor wear I found LEAKS!!! And you end up with a rather soggy and miffed off pony!!! Just personal experience! My Weatherbeetas have never let the water in yet!

I had real problems with shires rugs, wouldnt fit Smartie and depending on the horse rip easily, although my boy seems to destroy everything possible. Equineinternational ones have lasted, not een a catch, mark todds I found good to, although one of my weatherbeeters has lasted. Master and Amigo got destroyed in less then two weeks.

I recently got Molly a lightweight shires turnout which is great and fits even her chunky neck! The new derby house rugs in the new catalogue look fab for the money!

Rider's International HUG System has been my ultimate favorite for Blossom, as she's still growing, and it easily adapts to her broad shoulders. However, I've heard excellent things about Derby and Shire...both very durable, and wonderful fit. Not to forget Rambo, but I have found for Blossom, if the rest of the rug fits perfectly, its tight about her shoulders. I think that's just her, though. And I know they're durable, and very, very well built.

Sooty has a shires turnout and I've no complaints. It's onto it's second year and still looks like new. He also has a saxon turnout (which is weatherbeeta according to my saddler) which was very cheap and it is brilliant. The sizes are small though so I had to get the size up for him.

Jay has 2 Shires rugs, the lightweight and medium/heavyweight (not sure which it is!) with detachable neck cover. He's had the lightweight 3 years now and the thicker one 2 years. Both fit him really well and look like new once they've been cleaned. I'd definitely recommend them

Has anyone found a really good fit thats wide in the neck? preferably high cut over the wither area??? Im using Bobs Rhino summer weight just to keep the mud off him and it seems to have gone very tight across the chest. He is also the slimmest hes been for ages so I dont know whats happened? it just seems tight.

Well Sabina has a medium high wither and a broad chest and we find that the Premier Equine rugs fit her best of all. I've also had Louistic in them and they go round him nicely too.

Bev, the best one I've found like that for Molly's enormous neck is the Rambo Excel, it's a fab fit and quite high cut, covers withers, never moves but she has just trashed it for the first time in 2 years and managed to rip off the front fastenings, something strange must've happened there!
