dan lives next to 2 mares, he has one field they have another.
one mare has been to visit stallion and is in foal.
this morning i was grooming dan in his field and the other mare was flashing her bits for dan, i dont think he even noticed hes so inicent bless him lol. i shooded her away and carreid on brushing.
i then heard a grunting noice like the stallion does before he does the deed!! i looked up and the preg mare was trying to mount the in season mare!! then as if she reallised she wasnt acctually a stallion spun round and booted the poor girl who thought her luck was in!!!
is this normal??

LOL at shooshing the in season mare away from the boundary between the 2 fields!!!! I suspect her hormones will get the better of her, if she's anything like one of my mares in season, and she'll be flirting for all she's worth in no time again!
Don't know about one mare mounting another - haven't seen that myself, but who knows! The only slightly odd behaviour I spotted on a remotely similar vein, was one of my in season mares allowing another mare's colt foal to try and get a drink from her udders while she was flirting with a mare over the other side of the fence! If she wasn't in season, he wouldn't have DARED try that!!! LOL. Those hormones can cause a lot of confusion, can't they!

Tinker used to mount Doris quite a lot when I first got Doris - I assumed it was a bit of a dominance thing - or maybe she's just wierd

We have had a different problem. My friend's older mare has become very possessive and is keeping herself between the stallion and in season mares. She chases the mares away and has had to be removed on a couple of occasions to allow the stallion to do his duty! She is worse when she is coming into season.....

We had the same problem with an older mare and the stallion - she would stand beside the mares in season and keep him away...... She was scanned two months ago and is not in foal herself.
