My vet was commenting (as she was ultrasounding mares last Friday ;D) that many mares are continuing to cycle well into Autumn - and she is seeing more late season foals than she used to. Plus, in her opinion, they are stopping cycling in about December January and not becoming fertile until May or June or, in the case of some older mares, even later This reminded me of our recent problem. I was going to buy a Fell mare in the North of England who accidentally got in with the stallion overnight last November (a time when her owner/breeder thought she would no longer be cycling, so thought nothing of it and so forgot to mention it). I was planning to have her bred this summer for a May 2007 foal. Turns out she is already pregnant We are not equipped to overwinter such a late season foal Is this global warming
