No foals for me - that's the end of my breeding attempts I'm afraid I tried both Daisy and Leia this year but no luck, We think Daisy did take as she didn't come back into season, but when scanned there was nothing there and has been in season since and Leia just doesn't want babies it seems - vet says everything seems fine internaly but she didn't take again this year . Anyone want to try with 11 year old maiden mare next year

Sorry Zelda. Maybe again next year? This year has been funny for breeding. Quite a few mares are having strange seasons.

Aww I'm sorry zelda but like grace says its been an incredibly bad breeding year for most, be it dales, shetlands, welsh or TBs so dont be too disheartened. 11 year old really is not that old for a maiden.

Oh what a shame Zelda, perhaps next year? Sometimes things just aren't meant to be !

Never mind Zelda - at least you tried, didn't you? Its just one of those things, isn't it. Look at Molly last year, she did not come back into season, and it cost me a fortune on a scan and blood tests. That is why I have left her this year, although I will probably have a blood test at 100 days.
If she does not come up in foal this time, I will not be taking her back to the stallion next year. She is a good driving mare, and we have already missed two years of driving shows. I would not have minded if we had got a foal out of the missed time .....

The worst of all, is that the numbers for the dales are going down All these girlies have decided they want to be 'career girls' and not mums! Perhaps next year will be better for breeding??

Sorry Zelda, I have been down a few times this year with mine too!! It's not as easy as I thought it would be either. Dee has been back for her 3rd time this year. Victoria looks hormonal, lets hope next year is better. Have you tried different ways? Mine have only been served in hand, might look at changing it next year if possible. Barbara

Sorry about this Zelda, but try again next year. A friend of ours took 2 years to get her pony in foal, but she has finally managed to do it. Similar aged pony to yours too.

I would have thought it was worth trying again next year. Maybe try different time, different stallion, different approach, anything really. She might not have met the man of her dreams yet. I think with Daisy you will just have to see what happens, I know of more than one mare than looked empty on the scan and produced a healthy foal and Moo still squealed and flirted all through carrying Ed, apparently some mares do look as if the have seasons even though they are in foal. Hope things do work out for you and your girlies.

Thanks everyone, trust me to try when even the experienced are having problems I can't try next year funds won't allow it (skint) this year cost me much more than I thought it would (had a few extra trips to see the girls etc.) maybe I'll win the lottery or the bothy will eventually get finished and rented out to bring in some £££

I am sorry to hear that Zelda - what a shame after all that effort - it would have been lovely for you to have a foal or two. I'm not suprised that you are so disappointed.

I've had a couple of bad years too - it happens unfortunately. I got on mare covered 2 years ago and she must have absorbed the foal quite early on, but then put on weight as if she was in foal! I eventually got the vet to carry out an internal a couple of months before she would have been due and it was confirmed she wasn't in foal so I had spent the best part of a year expecting a foalie. She took last year and produced filly this year, but my other mare (who took easily 3 years ago) didn't take despite being covered during 2 different seasons.
