I think he looks spot on weight wise, but its difficult to say from a picture. What do you feed hm at the moment?
I've moved Jay onto 'simple systems' feeding. I'm really pleased so far. he had a tendancy to get too bolshy on some of the other feeds I'd tried but luckily it hasn't been the case with the simple systems feed. He looks great on it too...you can almost see your reflection in his coat!

He looks just fine to me too. I also think something along the lines of Alph-beet or Speedy-beet would be worth trying if Smartie tends to drop off through the winter. Preferable to uping his Pasture Mix which can send them silly.
I put Winnie (who is very old and very skinny) onto Allan and Page Calm and Condition Cubes a few weeks ago and he is doing extremely well on it - he has deffinately put on quite a bit of weight. I tried Top Spec's Cool Conditioning Cubes for him earlier this year. They were also good but hard for me to get hold of and I think Winnie has responded better to the Allan and Page cubes.
There is so much on the market that it all gets mind boggling but I, too, stick to the low starch fibre feeds.

He looks in pretty good condition to me - have you tried sugar beet? I always used that when mine needed to put condition on and it worked very well (not that I ever need it now!). Just mixed it with their normal feed.
I've also heard very good things about Simple Systems feeds.

I've heard that Simple Systems are v good, but I thought that you could only order large amounts if you were not close to them - I'm in Scotland. Simple systems gave me the contact details for their agent in my area. All i have to do is ring him with my order (no minimum) and he delivers it. The price charged includes delivery so there are no hidden costs etc. Its been so easy so far. I'm not sure about how it works up in Scotland with numbers of agents and the areas they cover etc, but definitely worth giving them a ring if you're considering trying it. I found their nutritiona advice extremely helpful too. They might be worth a chat with to see what they would recommend for smartie. Before I moved to simple systems I was giving Jay a slow release performance mix before and during periods when I was asking him to do a bit more work, such as jumping, but I couldn't keep him on that all the time because he would gain weight so easily. Now he has the same feed all the time, but I can just increase the size of his ration before I want him to do more work.

Sugar beet in the winter is great to keep them warm so they don't burn weight off.
If I want to put weight on any of mine I use D & H Staypower muesli with sugar beet and fibergy - it works for me and they don't get fizzy on it.

I'm a big fan of lots of fibre keeps the gut working properly That is what our vet always says, also digesting fibre helps to keep them warm.
