Breeders have different mares they breed from and may choose to have different bloodlines, like us. We have 4 mares with completely different bloodlines out of our 7 ponies (2 of which are yearling fillies we bred ourselves and they're by the same stallion but out of different mares). It's only Rose who is similarly bred to Dancer.

I suppose even a full brother/sister's similarity would be dependent on which genes they inherit from their sire and dam; so could be completely dissimilar from one another?

Misty's had 3 foals that were all by the same sire before she came to us and they looked quite different from each other. Out of those 3, 2 were black and 1 was grey.

This breeding stuff is fascinating because with the rarity of Dales the genepool must be relatively small.

It is small. We like to use different stallions with our mares to expand our own lines. We are very lucky to have some very rare bloodlines.

Its really fascinating to see all the different bloodlines, and who's related to whom. Haven't some of the other societies created computer programs to help with their genepools? It would be neat to see something similar done with the dales, but oh my that would be a LOT of work!!!

Someone did mention loading the studbooks online & the proceeds from an annual subscription of somewhere in the region of £10pa going to the DPS.
Given that it would cost in excess of £200 to buy them all, not all are available and it takes ages to sort through manually it seemed reasonable to me.
Can't remember where I saw the post though.
