We finally decided that it was time to let go of our gorgeous yellow lab! He turned up with dan when we bought our 1st house together (me and my dog!) and made our home perfect. About 5 years ago a disc burst in his back, damaging all the nerves in there. After a serious operation, lots of money and rehabilitation we had him back with us! Not as he should have been (couldnt control his 'functions') but that didnt matter. We equipt a house for him in the back garden for summer and cleared out the consevatory for winter for him (complete with personal fan heater! ) and he was set. Sometimes it was hard work and frustraiting - but isnt that the way it is! He has been deteriorating for a while now, but you only see what you want to see. It got to the stage this past month where he was struggling to get up, and in the end chosing to not bother. A few steps and he was done for! So, today we chose to end his 11 years. The vet came to the house - I went to work as I am pathetic and my OH 'dealt' with the situation. I know we have done the right thing - but it doesnt make it any easier. Sending him on with all my love...................................

Oh Jo - so sorry to hear this. Poor old lad - you and Dan really did make the right decision for him. And you gave him all the love and care a dog could ever hope for.
RIP Sticks......

So sorry, you have done what was best. RIP Prince.
THIS IS WHAT WE OWE OUR ANIMALS
if it should be that i grow frail and weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep then you must do what must be done for this, the last battle , can't be won. You will be sad, I understand Don't let your grief then stay your hand. For this day, more than the rest your love and friendship stand the test. We've had so many happy years What is to come holds no fears. You'd not want to suffer so When the time comes, please let me go. Take me where my needs they'll tend Only stay with me till the end. Hold me firm and speak to me, until my eyes no longer see I know in time you too will see It is a kindness you do to me........
This is what we owe to our animals

What a truly awful decision to have to make, but the right one obviously. I can understand you are heartbroken at the moment but I hope the happy memories start to take over soon.
Rest in peace Sticks. x
