I remember being told that our DPS performance show was originally set up to be similar to the Fell Pony performance trials (which have only more recently been opened up to breeds other than Fells). So the emphasis of both those shows is on encouraging people/ponies of all abilities to take part, and have the support of other entrants, and a whole lot of fun in the process. Is there really the scope for having a second DPS performance-type show, or are there changes that could be suggested to the existing one which would still help keep it allinclusive? I've no idea what the arrangements are re the venue for the Fell pony one, except that it is hosted by some Fell pony breeders, so I suspect that the overheads are kept manageable in that way. Now, how many Dales breeders can I think of who are from the landed gentry, who'd like to host a whole load of us hooling around for next to nothing? ? Ummmm, guess I'll have to keep thinking on that one! Seriously, I love the performance show, and I love the idea of the Fell pony performance trials (just wish they were nearer), but it did sound as though numbers at this year's performance show were quite low, which is such a shame. I don't know why, either, as it's such a lovely show to attend. Sarah

....atually I think there may be room for another one, it doesnt have to be a full performance trial or show, perhaps just an annual meet up to try proper cross country. I know there is jumping at the PS, and a small WH course at the Midlands Show, but its not quite the same thing as cross country.
Worth a try Alison, and me and mum will help you and anyone else who would be interested/ ;D

If you want to do a try a cross-country day rather than a competition; it might be worth asking area reps (or anybody spread around the country actually, its just the reps have the contact details for DPS members) if they could think about one rather than a centralised event. Only because then the numbers can be more spread out and there could even be an instructor element plus much less organisation on one group of people.
We're already in planning to run a come-and try it day for our area next spring on a local cross-coutnry course with fab baby jump course alongside the bigger jumps but we certianly aren't central enough. i think the idea is we will have limited numbers in session and it will be with an instructor who knows the course off the back of her hand so its safe and organsied, plus noone feels out of their depth - its only really in planning stage. Its only a suggestion anyway but might spread the organisation out.

;D whoopee yes. I think the performance show is just right as it is - I reckon a one day event should e more action less showing and a whole points thing. Totally separate but with the same emphasis on fun and having a go.I know Joy & I would e up or it. What help would you need Alison? I we have an early plan then I will try to muster up some help. How exciting.
