That's not too far from me but I don't have anything reliable to go out with hunting types LOL! A pleasure ride I did recently was bad enough

I went to the Albrighton Hunt Fun Ride a couple of months ago and it was only "normal happy hackers" tootling around the hunt land; i assumed this would be the same! If you have to go round with "hunt types" then YES, that def. not for us.
By the way Gill; this is HalfD on another computer (i was going to meet you on the Weston Park ride).

Oh yes, hi!
Well the pleasure ride I did was a lot of happy hackers but also hunting types who were tearing around at a rate of knots, poor Saturn didn't know whether to stop, go or turn himself inside out lol! It was all a bit exciting for a 4 year old but he did calm down at the end.
Are you going to this one?
Edited to add I've just realised I can't go anyway - have people staying!

Gill
Jill and I took Bow and Megz on a hunt supporters ride last weekend. Because it went through my village, we just joined it from home, which happened to be about 80% of the way round the ride....... so when we got to the "official" startpoint, we were amont the last few to leave there.
I've been on those rides before, and love them - they tend to be fast and furious. Great fun, but only if you're happy to ride them at that kind of speed. Usually I've been amongst the first few to start out, and the ponies have known they are on a herd "migration" right from the start, and really got into a good, fast rhythm!
Well, this time was very different. Because we were so near the end, most of the maniacs would be way in front, and the atmosphere was generally very chilled. There was one horse who was totally blown away by the ride, though - too emotional to chill out; too fit to chill out; too fit to find any calmness from repeated circles in the many stubble fields; too claustrophobic to be asked to slow down (whether or not others were coming past); was pretty much threatening to rear up the more its rider tried to shut it down. That was the one horse I wouldn't have wanted to be near on a green pony, but other than that one, I made a mental note that joining that type of ride right at the end could probably work quite well as a first pleasure ride for a green pony.
To be fair, we could see the bonkers horse in the distance long before we got close to it, so could have chosen to stay back (and probably would have done if we'd had a green pony with us). Instead, we bided our time til we could safely overtake and get away from it.
....... a bit of a longwinded way of saying, depending on start intervals, I think the hunt supporters rides can be great for either a green pony or the more established ones.

In answer to your question Gill; Yes im going to try this one and someone from the yard is coming over with me too. It will be her 1st time and she is quite nervous of how Archie is going to react, she's hoping to just walk & trot round!
I rang the number and spoke to a lady who told me - Its all off road on our own estate (Isle Estate, Bicton - Have you been here? Do you know what its like?) private tracks & fields, there are about 70 fences in total (we cant even do 1!), she doesn't no the distance but said it would roughly take 2 hours (i assume thats for leggy hunters running & jumping SO lets say 4 hours for me & Shian!).

No I haven't been there, shame I can't make it as I'd have liked to meet up - sounds like you and your friend would be good company for Saturn!
Perhaps we can meet another time? There seem to be quite a few pleasure rounds round here at this time of year, there was one at Hawkestone Park recently and another at Adcote on 24th Sept.

I saw the Adcote ride advertised when i spotted the Bicton ride; 24th is our last show for this season otherwise i may have been tempted to go.
Shrewsbury is going to be just over an hour for us so id be interested to know about any that you hear of.
There are not many rides our way however; there is a farm/livery stables (Gothersley) that opens their grounds 2 or 3 times a year to non-liveries, ill let you know about that one as soon as i know anything if you'd be interested in coming this way (Stourton, Nr Stourbridge)?
