Just wondering when everyone gives a bath so that they look there best at a show ? I normally bath in the afternoon of the day before a show and rug up and put a hood on to keep him clean and stop hay/shavings getting in his mane, tail gets put in a tail wrap or tail bag to keep clean and out of the shavings.

We don't have stabling, so for the Bakewell show we will bath Rose and Dilly on the Saturday, put them in the cleanest field and then pray LOL!

Morning or afternoon before, then a layer of absorbine show sheen and a cotton sheet before being chucked in clean stable with either straw or shavings. We avoid the hoods and tail wraps merely because Magic's mane is so huge we find they really flatten it down and so it moving nice anf freely. They just brush out in the morning.

The afternoon before, followed by conditioner and showsheen. If it's dry and forecast to be dry overnight, then he goes out in the field (perhaps with a summer sheet) and I do any tidying up the morning of the competiton/show. If it's going to be wet, then I'd keep him in. I don't put any clothes on him in the stable - just brush the shavings out the next day. I might wash his sock on the morning of the event if he's got it grubby in the night, and clean his dock, eyes and nostrils. He's not a Dales, so I'd plait him up (or one of the youngsters on the yard does it for me) Otherwise he keeps pretty clean. A far cry from my coloured cob, Alfie, who was a mud/grass/stable stain magnet! LOL
