Sami wanted to take Gypsy to the local riding club show yesterday and she was an absolute star. She got very giddy at all the horses around her and whinnied a lot but was really good in the ring. She was placed last in the m&m which didnt surprise me as she shouldn't have really been in the class as they dont include part breds and she wasnt plaited anyway, Sami just wanted to do it for the experience. She then did bonny pony and came 5/10 so Sami was delighted (although she thought she should have won!). The main thing was the experience of the long walk up alone, being away from the boys for 5 hours and then walking home, fortunately with another pony as I think that would have been pushing it had she been alone. I should add that she came straight out of the field, tail washed and a wipe over with a damp cloth as she doesnt 'do' bathing! I was a little bit ashamed of the lack of preparation and the dust clouds every time we patted her but it was a nice day.

Indeed! I think both did VERY well for Gypsy's first show!!! Ummm...I'm a bit confused...I thought all the M & Ms were supposed to be shown 'natural', so no plaits? Can you please explain for me??? (I've NO clues when it comes to showing, and even less about the m&m classes!)

lol.............Gypsy is a crossbred summat and summat, we havent got a clue what she is but Sami decided she was a welsh section B for the day, unfortunately there was a gorgeous example of a section b in the class with her and she was absolutely nothing like it!! She is also a bit strange looking at the moment, bum up in the middle of a growth spurt (I hope!). Part breds are supposed to be shown plaited, Im told, if they are included in the class but this was only for pure breeds. Sami just wanted to try it out and see what happened behaviour wise mostly but also to see what she will be able to enter her as next year. I just think she was lucky not to be kicked straight out of the class, if Id have been showing my pony and had spent hours preparing I would have been well p****** if she had been placed any higher than last.

Thanks for that...do they use the plaits to differentiate between purebred and partbreds then? See... told you I know *nothing* about showing I still think Gypsy did fantastic given it was her first outing like this....

I only know what Sami tells me, I'd forgotten it all years ago. I suppose if they are not purebred they are not worthy to be shown naturally but I figure if they are a mixture of different m&ms then they are still m&m. I am dead proud of how she behaved because I was expecting hysterics and the showing bit is just playing (not sure Sami sees it that way though!!) and Sami handled her really well in and out of the ring.

Well done Sami and Gypsy, we nearly came to Horsforth Show as we enjoyed it so much last year. We were just too tired as we did the HAPPA show the day before.
I bet they were really worried when Sami turned up, she won everything last year. Still got that pic of them on the windowsill.
