I am exhausted! Today I turned out (washed, plaited etc...)3 ponies for an RDA competition, travelled them, called tests, groomed etc... etc... Then, after all that I was supposed to bath Rocky for a show tomorrow, but i was SOOOO tired that I didn't bath him!! I gave him a VERY good brush and he was looking good, but I now feel terrible that I didn't bath him!!!! Do you guys ALWAYS bath before shows??? It was a little bit cool too, which put me off the idea of cold water!!!!

Normally we do but we're taking two to a local show tomorrow to do some workers/ridden showing and we didnt get a chance to bath them up today so are going with a good brush and some mane detangler. So you're not alone! and he'll be fine!! Good luck!!

Not all the time no. It depends on a lot of things really and most times if we do bath it is only mane and tail anyway. I don't like taking too much natural oil out of the coat. A good brush polishes them up well enough most of the time. Wd don't use coat shine either, it is all down to brush work.
Good luck with your show tomorrow.

definately NOT! if the pony looks great after a good brush, then its much better for him not to keep having all the natural oils washed out of his coat! i wiped a damp sponge over daniel tonight as he was clean.........off to puk tomorrow! eek! LOL
soooooooooo, you can go to bed with a clear conscience[sp? sorry im too tired to think about spelling!]

I'm glad it's not just me!!! Like yours Anna,it's only a local show, but all the same, it's the first time I have allowed my standards to slip!!!
Good luck with yours too!
I hope your bbq went well!!!
Karen, again, you have made me feel better!!! Good luck at Puk!!!
The thing about the natural oils makes sense!!! I am going to try the elbow grease approach!!!!

I do try and bath if we are going somewhere. But if they look clean enough, I do cheat and just do the manes and tails - that does make a difference!!
Tyson is going out tomorrow and has not had a bath. BATH? whats one of those, he says!!! He will get a good brush over in the morning, and that will make him passable.

Good luck Karen, Anna and family and everyone else going to PUK.
I'm also being a "bad parent". We're taking Harvey to a small show today to let Nikki and Ali have their first attempt at an In Hand class. The weather is vle here - gales and heavy rain - so there is no way I'd bath Harvey. He's been out all night in it and no doubt will be too wet to groom properly this morning. Mind you, if this wind doesn't ease soon I can't see that we will be going!

yes well, we went to the show unbathed!!! I am very glad I didn't bath him actually! The weather was VILE!! In fact, we haven't been out in bad weather yet until today!! WELL, he was a bit naughty! Actually, VERY naughty, but it was fun!! He came last!! I think it had something to do with the Workers working in area was right next to our ring, and unfortunately, the first time we walked past someone galloped up to a jump aqnd flew over it!! Rocky go very excitable! Up in the air etc... EVERYTHING I was moaning about last week! Bad manners! The ring was also right next to the road, and the judge wanted me to trot past her, right towards the hedge by the road!! A car came past very fast, and Rocky nearly sat down!! Ha ha!! Never mind! at least he went straight in the box on the way home! Probably glad to get home!!!!!
Oh, by the way, I think I also offended the judge! My dog barked at her when she appeared at the ringside!! I told her that it was probably her hat!!! Ooops! Bad move! She seemed a little offended!! Well, it was like some kind of dead extremely fluffy ex-animal plopped on top of her head!!!!!

You could get a horse hoover for bad weather. It puts a great shine on them.

lol its all good experience for him Hannah!! Lol @ insulting the judge!
We once had a friend that went to the great expense of buying a hoover for his exmoors, not one of them would let it go near them LOL!
