I'm trying to plan which way would be best for us to go and wonder whether those of you who know Mill Lane Stables and Selby could advise me.
We're coming from Brigsley which is just SW of Grimsby. I've been up to Sue's/Escrick a few times and took the route over the Humber Bridge/A63/M62/Howden/Barlby and right onto the A19.
But as Mill Lane is just south of Selby it might be better for us to take the M180/M18/A1041 route. I've no idea what the roads around Selby are like. Can anyone let me know what they think is the best way to go?

Cant remember exact route despite going there a lot- if you are ahppy on the M62 Id say the roads are probably better that way as Mill Lane isnt far off the M62 junction 34 I think- basically j34 and follow A19 north I think (Dad advising here!)

Over the humber bridge!!! That sounds far too scary!!!!!
Personally I would give that bridge a wide berth - but I dont do bridges of that size!! LOL
Your alternative route would work like a charm for you! I am assuming you are coming of the M18 at Goole (J6) The 1041 is a decent road, and aside from a couple of small bends in one of the villages and one or two of those ridiculous mini roundabouts it is a nice (pretty straight) drive.
If you come from that direction and keep heading for Selby you will pretty much fall over the new bypass. Go onto the bypass - it will be signed for Brayton and possibly Thorpe Willoughby and follow it until the next roundabout - take the last exit off there, signed for Selby and Brayton and then it is the 1st turning on your right (mill lane) Pretty much all the way to the top and you are there.
If it is just the A1041 that you are concerned about, I dont think it is a problem for a horse trailer.

I don't mind towing over the bridge but was more concerned about what the road from the A63/A19 junction at Barlby down through Selby to Mill Lane is like. Sounds like the route avoiding the Humber bridge is best then.
so I could do the route you suggest Jo, ie coming off the M18 at Thorne or do as you suggest Emily, go onto the M62 and up the A19 which is more miles but better roads. Decisions!

The junction is a main road, Pam, so not too bad. This route would take you through Selby town centre, unless you got onto the bypass and went round the town.
Sorry to give conflicting ideas - but I would tow over the Humber if it isn't a windy day and come that way, off the M62 straight onto the A19.
Phone me this evening if you like - do you have my number?

To be honest, I wouldnt have thought there was much in it, road wise! Granted, Emily's route is straighter, and the one I would take has a few kinks in it LOL! You just wouldnt get me over that bridge - so i would have no choice LOL
Does that bridge have a toll on it - just out of interest?!
You wouldnt have to take the box through Selby at all though! If you are coming to Selby as if you have been to Sue's, the bypass now starts before Selby. So you could hop on there - straight over the 1st roundabout and then the last exit at the 2nd one!

LOL Jo - sounds like you know the road like the back of your hand - I'd never have known which exit it was off which roundabout! You're a very useful person to know - did you know that? Full of useful info - as per earlier PMs LOL

LOL Sue - and I couldnt find my way out of a carrier bag!! ROFL Just to fill you all with confidence!!! A mindful of usually useless information!!!!! I could even tell you what lane to use as well on the bypass, but that is just SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was counting the roundabouts in my head - as they seem to breed down that blasted bypass! LOL See, now I am thinking about it - I missed that stupid, pointless one just before the new swing bridge!
