The Dales did really well at County Show yesterday. Durham don't have Dales classes anymore only mixed M&M but the Championship were all Dales apart from one. The judge was a mrs Gibb from Aberdeen and no-one knew what she owned herself before the classes. Anyway, it didn't matter as the championship consisted of Leadgate Black Beauty (Mare or Gelding), Leadgate Blue Belle (Brood Mare), Leadgate Blue J (foal), Creebeck Skylark (Connemara yearling), Manorian Mischief (2/3 year old) and Waterside William II (Stallion). Then I nearly died when Mischief was pulled in as Champion and the Connie as reserve. Not only had she beaten her dad again she had beaten the wonderful Black Beauty. Mischief in her class. Unfortunately she didn't win anything in the Supreme. That was won by a coloured thoroughbred type.

What a great result! Well done. Saw Mischief at North Yorkshire Show, if I remember rightly, and she does look lovely. What a shame there isn't a Dales section any more. Would have thought it would be well supported up that way?

How wonderful! Well done. Mischief is a wonderful. I would be delighted to have one nearly as good as she. Well done to Mischief and tell William not to worry that he is producing such good progeny.
I too would have thought there would be a Dales class up that way if anywhere. Perhaps with numbers like that in the Championship they could be tempted?
;D

Thanks Penny. Apparently, and I have only heard this 2nd hand a dales person(mentioning no names) upset the secretary and she said as long as she was secretary she would never have dales classes again. We always had them until a couple of years ago. As long as she continues to get good, panel judges who realise that Dales Ponies are the best it doesn't really matter.

Well the explanation is a good one! True enough that if judges do judge ponies as good examples of any breed, it doesn't matter about having their own classes.

No Pimms Nic. Just a beer tent. Never thought to take some with me. I will have to take a bottle to the breed show then when the judge is at lunch all the dalesfans could meet at our wagon for a Pimms.

Seems crazy that there would not be Dales Pony classes in Durham!! So I suspect that there IS something political behind it.
Congratulations - even without breed classes, the Dales ponies certainly flew the flag in the M&M classes!!
