Went to BSPA Champs at the weekend.
51/2 hour drive to get there, Tilly was fine Friday night.
Saturday morning she came up in bumps all over her. After taking advice we assumed we had overrugged her as its much warmer in Keysoe than at home. She was fine in herself so she did her family pony class.
Put her in the stable for lunch, 1/2 later she was lying down and didn't get up when I went in. I got her up and took her out into the field where she went down. She didn't look colicy but she wouldn;t get up just ate grass lying down, when she needed fresh grass she just rolled a bit to move herself.
Rang my vet who said he had no idea what it was but didn't sound too serious so give her a couple of hours and if she wasn't better to get the local vet out.
Two hours later she was fine, grazing and walking about looking bright and happy, lumps had gone down a bit. Obviously we didn't do her afternoon classes.
Sunday afternoon she was fine, still a bit bumpy but otherwise OK so she did her classes. She got 2 4th and a 5th.
Mon morning the same. She's fine now she's home.
Apart from the travelling and possibly overrugging the only possible explanation we could find was that the straw they sold was barley and did not appear to have been harvested. When I mucked out this morning I fould loads of ears of barley under the straw. I had noticed her rooting around in it but didn't twig.
Some of the SR'ers have mentioned barley alergies.
Will definately be much more carefull about bedding in future, trouble is it takes so much room to take your own and sometimes if the stables are really muddy shavings dont really do the job.
Didn't know where to put this post as its not really showing or health just a warning.
